Hii, My daughter is telling to take commerce after 10th. Here are her traits and interest:- # she like social science and a bit maths as well # she is good in arts. #she wanted to do CA and side by side she will do something else as well. # she wanted to do something in which job can be easily found in the competitive world. Please tell me is commerce with maths and economics a right choice for her.

Ans: Sweta Madam, Fully read about your daughter's interests & plans.

Please note,

(1) She can choose Commerce with Maths & Economics.
(2) She wants to pursue CA, she should not/cannot do something else as well (which you have mentioned). She can focus only on CA. Besides, she should be strong in Maths for CA.
(3) She can try for BBA/MBA with any one of the Top NIRF-ranked & Reputed Management College where she can easily get placed for the job she prefers.
(4) However, to target any one of those colleges, she should start preparing well for Entrance Exams .
(6) It is advisable to decide by November-December (assuming she is in 10th this year) which career path she should choose for Entrance Exams or to mentally prepare for CA Foundation.
(7) Better to have Plan B & Plan C also for Arts/Humanities Stream if she changes her mind when she will be in 11th (such as Psychology, Design etc.).

All the BEST for Your Daughter's Bright Future.

My daughter wants to take commerce stream in XI considering Accounting, Business studies, applied Math, Economics and Information practices. She has no idea of what she choose. She has a little love for math today. Will this be a right track? As per the previous results, she had some interests in humanities group (including economics) which reflected into numbers she got. But now she has been a bit confused. Please advice.
Ans: It’s great to hear that your daughter is considering Commerce stream in XI. Commerce is a popular stream of education that deals with various aspects of business, trade, accounting, financial information/transactions, and merchandising. The subjects that are taught under the Commerce stream in Class 11 comprise Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Statistics, Mathematics, and Informatics Practices.

Based on your message, it seems like your daughter has an interest in Mathematics and Economics. It’s worth noting that Mathematics is an important subject in Commerce stream and is a prerequisite for many professional courses such as Chartered Accountancy (CA), Company Secretary (CS), Cost and Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Banking Sector. Economics is also a core subject in Commerce stream and is essential for understanding the functioning of the economy and business environment.

Considering your daughter’s interests and the subjects she is considering, Commerce stream in XI seems like a good choice. However, it’s important to note that Commerce stream is not just about numbers and calculations, but also requires analytical and critical thinking skills. It’s also important to keep in mind that the choice of stream should be based on your daughter’s interests and aptitude, and not just on the basis of previous results.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Hello sir My daughter is in 8th grade ICSCE and moving to 9th now, she need to choose subjects. She is not interested in maths but want to take commerce and economics. Without maths will there be good options in future for studies and career? Please assist
Ans: Praveen, Your daughter has great job choices in banking, finance, marketing, law, corporate secretary, mass communication, journalism, and hotel management even if she can pursue Commerce and Economics without Mathematics. Higher studies possibilities comprise B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce), B.A (Bachelor of Business Administration), BA Economics, Law (BA LLB/BVA LLB), Mass Communication & Journalism, and Hotel Management. Jobs in banking and finance; marketing and sales; HR; corporate secretary; legal profession; and entrepreneurship abound. Nonetheless, some elite institutions and universities could demand Mathematics, and disciplines like Data Science, Finance, and Actuarial Science mostly depend on it. She can still have a brilliant future in commerce and economics even if she hates maths greatly. She should investigate courses in Business Studies, Accountancy, or Entrepreneurship alongside Commerce & Economics since Applied Mathematics can be a useful substitute. Please note, The level of Mathematics required in Commerce and Economics depends on the specific subjects and career paths chosen. Commerce without Maths involves basic calculations and logic-based thinking, while Economics without Maths involves basic statistics, graphs, and logical reasoning. B.Sc. Economics requires higher Maths, while Commerce with Applied Maths covers practical topics like financial mathematics, probability, statistics, and logical reasoning. Career paths include B.Com, BBA, CS, Law, HR, Digital Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. If a daughter dislikes Maths but wants Commerce/Economics, Commerce without Maths is a safe choice. If she is not able to cope up with ICSCE Board, it is advisable to change her into CBSE. If she is struggling with the ICSE board, it is advisable to transfer her to CBSE. All the Best for Your Daughter's Prosperous Future.

Dear Sir/Madam, My elder daughter is studying in 10th CBSE. She is not a very bright student and is not inclined towards doing Engineering or Medical; and we being old school parents, are not aware of any other careers. She has been talking about getting into the commerce stream, but I am not sure of the career options that she can follow. I did some searching and found that B.Com, MBA is the option that she could take. CA might be tough option for her. Kindly guide in terms of what could be a good option for my daughter.
Ans: To begin with, it’s highly recommended that your daughter takes a Psychometric Career Assessment. This will help identify her interests, strengths, and personality traits, leading to the most suitable career options for her.

If she is inclined towards the Commerce stream, she should start preparing early — ideally from Grade 11 — for the CUET (Common University Entrance Test). Before starting, make sure to thoroughly research the CUET exam pattern, list of participating Central and State Universities, the courses they offer, placement records, and which programs are currently in demand.

In addition to CUET, it’s also wise to shortlist 8–10 reputed private universities known for their quality education and placement support. These could be in your state, neighboring states, or metro cities. Check if these colleges conduct their own entrance exams or participate in CUET-based counselling.

Early preparation is crucial, as competition is high for top programs in reputed institutions.

Lastly, help her explore undergraduate programs that are in high demand today, as this will give her clarity and direction in choosing a career path that is both relevant and rewarding. All the best for your Daughter's admissions!
