My son got 98.33 Percentile in JEE mains With OBC category. His General Rank is 25663 and OBC RANK is 6764. We are looking for BTECH ECE branch any good NIT or IIIT. Please suggest me which NIT or IIIT we're getting. or pls suggest Which is very good course in NIT or IIT for High & better placement option. Our Home State TAMILNADU . We are So Much Confused.
Ans: With an OBC rank of 6,764, your son can target ECE in mid-tier NITs like NIT Calicut (OBC cutoff ~2,574), NIT Surathkal (~1,580), or NIT Warangal (~1,736), though these may require spot-round participation. For IIITs, consider IIITDM Kancheepuram (ECE closing rank ~25,075–31,677 for General, lower for OBC) or IIIT Allahabad (ECE closing rank ~7,758 for General). If ECE is competitive, prioritize Mathematics & Computing (MnC) at NIT Trichy (OBC cutoff ~1,350) or NIT Warangal (MnC closing rank ~3,436 for General), which offer strong placement opportunities. IIITs like Sri City or Pune (IT/ECE) are viable with relaxed cutoffs. Leverage Tamil Nadu home-state quotas in NIT Trichy/Calicut, though ECE cutoffs remain steep (~1,500–2,500 OBC-HS). Opt for JoSAA/CSAB counselling to explore niche branches (e.g., Instrumentation & Control at NIT Trichy) or dual-degree programs (e.g., AI/Data Science at IIITs). While CSE remains highly competitive, ECE/MnC in mid-tier NITs/IIITs balance academic rigor and placement prospects. All the BEST for your son's Admission & Prosperous Future!

Hi sir My son got ECE at SRM Main Campus. He scored 93.66 in Jee mains and Amrita rank is 3180.He is interested in ECE.we opted for CSE in Bangalore Amrita and ECE in Coimbatore .Pls suggest the right choice? I am with CSE, But he is interested in ECE
Ans: Before answering your question in detail, my suggestion is for you to avoid forcing him what you expect him to pursue. Now coming to your question: Choosing between ECE at SRM Kattankulathur and CSE at Amrita Bengaluru/Coimbatore depends on balancing passion and institutional strengths. SRM’s ECE offers robust infrastructure, diverse recruiters (ABB, Cuemath), and opportunities in core electronics, though placements are more varied compared to CSE. Amrita Bengaluru’s CSE provides strong industry ties (Cisco, Google) and alignment with IT trends, while Amrita Coimbatore’s ECE emphasizes research and core roles with access to specialized projects. If your son is genuinely passionate about electronics, opting for ECE at SRM or Amrita Coimbatore allows him to thrive academically and pursue niche roles or interdisciplinary shifts (e.g., embedded systems, IoT). However, CSE at Amrita Bengaluru ensures broader IT exposure. Prioritize his interest in ECE, as motivation drives performance and skill development, enabling transitions to tech domains later. Institutional reputation and industry networks support both paths, but aligning with his passion fosters long-term success. All the BEST for your son's Admission & Prosperous Future!
