What is the permanent cure for metatarsal pains?

Ans: There are many reasons causing metatarsal pains - excessive weight, standing for long hours, wrong shoes, etc. You can try hydrotherapy and massages therapy to ease the pains. Soak your feet in warm water for 15 minutes followed by cold water for another 15 minutes. You can also add a few drops of lavender oil to the water to further ease the pain. Lavender oil or pure Eucalyptus oil mixed with carrier oils like - coconut and almond oil, can be used for foot massage - once a week. If its due to excessive weight, please focus on weight reduction and wear shoes with proper arch support.

Hello, I have got heel pain from last 2 months and the pain is not subsiding and is more in the morning, i have tried doing the exercises changed my footwear but nothing is working What can be done for it?

Ans: Heel pain could be due to calcaneal spur, plantarfascitis, calf muscle trigger point or due to lumbosacral issues. Since your heel pain is for last 2 months it is advisable to go to either an orthopedic or physiotherapist.
They will guide you if any further investigation like an x-ray required and depending on the diagnosis the treatment may consist of Ultrasound therapy, calf muscle release, medications like NSAIDs.
Even through you have changed your footwear a tailor made footwear may be required as guided by the health professional.
Home remedy for heel pain is usually to dip your leg in warm water for 10 minutes followed by dipping it in cold water for 10 minutes. This can be done twice a day. It is better to do some calf stretches in the morning in the bed itself before putting your heel on the floor.
Feet are very important as they are the main weight bearing joints for the body hence it is necessary to be pain free in the feet area as any pain in the feet can affect the bio-mechanics of entire body.

Dr Nidhi, Are there some effective ways to relieve the pain of myofascial pain syndrome?

Ans: Dear Anonymous,
This is a very relevant question in the current scenario. We are seeing lot of people these days having myofascial pain syndrome. This can't be diagnosed by an x-ray or MRI hence often remains not diagnosed causing anxiety in the person.
As a physiotherapist we use various techniques like myofascia release, dry needling, cupping and IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation) to release the myofascia which greatly helps in relieving the pain. Along with this Ultrasound, IFT (Interferential therapy) and sujok therapy can also be used. It is important for the therapist to then give certain stretches and strengthening exercises so that the pain does not come back.
Certain nutrition guidelines that can create a more alkaline environment in the body also makes a huge difference.
Foam rolling technique or using a tennis ball to the tight fascia done at home everyday can also relieve pain but this has to be learnt correctly from a physiotherapist or a trainer.
