Hi, I am 47 years old male diagnosed with mild haital hernia 02 years back. After which I had stopped workout. Now few days back I had again started workout. My question is that, can a person with haital hernia continue doing workouts.

Ans: Dear Mr. Samir . Thank you for your query. Yes, it is generally possible to continue working out with a hiatal hernia, but certain precautions are necessary. With a mild hiatal hernia, you can exercise, but you should avoid movements that increase abdominal pressure or worsen symptoms, such as heavy lifting or exercises that involve bending or straining.

It's best to focus on low-impact exercises like walking, swimming, or cycling. Avoid heavy lifting or high-intensity workouts that put strain on your abdomen. You can also engage in core-strengthening exercises as long as they don't require heavy resistance. Pay attention to any symptoms like heartburn or discomfort and modify your routine if needed. Consulting your physical therapist for guidance on safe exercises is also important.
In short, resuming exercise is possible, but it’s essential to prioritize safety and listen to your body.
