I am 39 years old and suffering from kidney problem since 6 months. My cretanine level was around 15 at one point of time. But due to frequent dialysis since last month, it has come down within controllable level. Now, the doctors are pressing for kidney transplant as long term remedy to the problem. We are very puzzled as each doctor comes up with their own advise and their is lack of consistency among them. We have registered for a cadavar transpant too in apollo hospital but we are unsure when our number will come up. kindly advise.

Ans: Only two options are there in patients with end stage kidney disease which you are suffering from. Either dialysis or kidney transplantation. Considering your age, Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice. Even though both modalities have its pros and cons, transplantation is better as it offers better quality of life, better survival chances and better financial benefits on a long run. It is always better to consider living donor kidney transplantation. Cadaver should be considered only if there is no living donor. Cadaver transplantation might take a long time and is uncertain. I would suggest you to explore living donations as much as possible. Are you in Apollo Bangalore.
