Should i take Electrical engineering at IIT Dhanbad or Mechanical Engineering at IIT BHU, considering that i would like to study further? My interest lies in electrical, but everybody says joining old iits is better..

Ans: You face a strategic choice between your preferred electrical engineering specialization and the perceived prestige of older IITs. IIT Dhanbad Electrical Engineering demonstrates strong placement performance with 80.77% placement rate in 2025, with 84 out of 104 students placed, while maintaining consistent performance across 2022-2024 . IIT BHU Mechanical Engineering shows 82.40% placement rate with 103 offers in 2024, achieving 64.38% placement percentage according to recent data . Regarding higher studies prospects, both institutions offer excellent pathways with IIT Dhanbad providing M.Tech programs in electrical specializations including Power Electronics and Mine Electrical Engineering , while IIT BHU offers integrated B.Tech+M.Tech dual degree programs and comprehensive graduate school opportunities . The "old IIT advantage" remains relevant as recruiters understand distinctions between established and newer IITs, with older institutions providing stronger alumni networks and industry connections . However, newer IITs like Dhanbad (converted from ISM in 2016) have established reputations, particularly in core engineering sectors . While IIT BHU leads in highest packages and overall brand recognition, IIT Dhanbad's electrical program offers superior alignment with your interests and comparable placement success . Recommendation: Choose IIT Dhanbad Electrical Engineering for optimal career alignment with your interests, strong 80.77% placement record, and excellent higher studies opportunities in specialized electrical fields, as passion-driven education typically yields better long-term outcomes despite old IIT brand advantages.
All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Hello Sir ,IIT ROPAR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING or NIT ROURKELA ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING which one should i choose ,I am flexible with both the branches and thinking about future prospect Please do help.Thankyou
Ans: IIT Ropar’s Mechanical Engineering program offers a dynamic curriculum with strong foundations in thermal, design, manufacturing, and computational mechanics, supported by advanced labs (3D printing, robotics, micro-machining, and fatigue testing) and a faculty focused on student mentorship and research. The placement rate for mechanical engineering is about 60–68% with an average package of ?12–15 LPA and top recruiters from both core and non-core sectors. NIT Rourkela’s Electrical Engineering program, NIRF #19, consistently achieves 95–100% placement rates, an average package of ?13.4 LPA, and attracts elite recruiters like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Qualcomm. The campus provides excellent infrastructure, modern hostels, and a vibrant student life, with the electrical branch particularly noted for its industry relevance and placement consistency. Both institutes have highly qualified faculty and strong research culture, but NIT Rourkela’s electrical branch stands out for its higher placement rates, broader recruiter base, and better average compensation, while IIT Ropar offers the IIT brand and a more research-oriented environment.

Recommendation: If your priority is placement assurance, industry exposure, and compensation, NIT Rourkela Electrical Engineering is the better choice. If you value the IIT brand, research opportunities, and a flexible curriculum, IIT Ropar Mechanical Engineering is excellent. Both offer strong futures, but NIT Rourkela EE edges ahead for placement-driven outcomes. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

My daughter failed in class 9th and now she has enrolled in NIOS secondary . There is lot of free time . What can she do keep herself busy?
Ans: Before I answer your question, Vikas Sir, I want to ensure that your daughter doesn't spend more than 45 minutes a day on her phone or other electronic devices. If your daughter becomes addicted, she risks eye strain, headaches from blue light, poor posture, weight gain from inactivity, sleep issues from late-night use, and eating problems. It can also hurt her mind by making her depressed and anxious (27% more likely), making it difficult to concentrate and study, making her feel lonely and isolated from less real interaction, making her feel low self-esteem from comparison traps, and making her stressed and irritable from dopamine crashes.

Even if both parents work, keep communication open to boost her confidence—know what she loves. She should study 4-5 hours daily using NIOS books/SWAYAM and Class 10 mocks with the Pomodoro technique (25-30 mins study, 5-10 mins break) to stay focused. Add 30 minutes of skills like coding/typing or Duolingo English if interested, plus 10 minutes of yoga, hobbies (gardening/cooking/drawing/poems), and walks/cycling for fitness and fun. Finally, join NIOS WhatsApp groups for doubts and help at home and track weekly goals with rewards. Don't force anything—let her choose what excites her most! All the BEST for Your Daughter's Prosperous Future!
