Can i do pg in usa for free of cost as an Indian mbbs student?

Ans: Hello. First and foremost, thank you for contacting us. It is good to hear that you have been pursuing an MBBS currently. Going further, as an Indian student of MBBS, it is unlikely that you can pursue a postgraduate degree in the USA free of charge. Although there are scholarship opportunities for international students that are fully funded and scholarships that would cover a specific percentage of your tuition fees, finding a scholarship that targets only Indian students is difficult. Even if you get a fully-funded scholarship, you may have additional expenses like tuition fees, living expenses, and other expenses for transportation and health insurance. It is preferred that you have a look at the scholarship programmes and financial aid programmes, which may help you reduce tuition fees but may not help you provide education fully free of charge.

For any further queries, please get in touch with us. We have a team of expert counsellors who can guide you through any concerns or questions you may have.

Indian MBBS degree is Not recognized by USA. How can anyone study MD there?
Ans: Hello Alphones,

To begin with, thank you for contacting us. As an answer to your query, I would like to let you know that if a person holding an Indian MBBS degree wishes to study Doctor of Medicine (MD) in the USA, he/she will generally require to undergo a procedure known as "medical residency." There are numerous steps that one will need to consider. Mentioned below is the same:

As the first step, to ascertain whether the candidate qualifies for a license in the US, they will need to get their educational qualifications assessed by organizations viz., the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Secondly, they will need to clear the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1, Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK), and Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS). Remember that one’s knowledge and abilities to practice medicine in the USA are evaluated through these exams. Thirdly, upon clearing the exams, they will be required to apply for residency posts using the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) or similar matching initiatives. Bear in mind that residency programs are highly competitive, and applicants need to show their qualifications and compatibility with the program. After being matched, students enroll in a residency training course in the field of specialization they have opted for. Based on the area of expertise, residency training usually takes three to seven years to complete. Lastly, after having completed residency training, students have the option to become board-certified in their field. They can do so by clearing extra tests that the relevant specialist board administers.

I would like to let you know that although an MBBS from India might not automatically qualify someone to practise medicine in the US, they can still pursue a medical career in the country by completing a medical residency program, as long as they meet the prerequisites and conditions.

I can invest Rs 10,000 every month for 10 years. Kindly suggest investing options -- where should I invest? How much wealth can I create after 10 years?
Ans: Investing Rs 10,000 per month for 10 years is a great decision. It will help you build substantial wealth over time. Here’s a detailed assessment of the best investment options and the potential returns you can expect.

Investment Options for Rs 10,000 Per Month

Suitable for long-term wealth creation.

Offers better flexibility compared to direct stock investment.

Can generate high returns over a 10-year period.

Ideal for those who can take moderate to high risk.

2. Debt Mutual Funds
Provides stability to your portfolio.

Lower risk compared to equity mutual funds.

Useful for balancing risk and return.

Returns are better than FDs over a long period.

3. Hybrid Mutual Funds
Invests in both equity and debt.

Balances market volatility better than pure equity funds.

4. Gold Investment (Sovereign Gold Bonds - SGBs)

5. Public Provident Fund (PPF)

6. National Pension System (NPS)

Debt Mutual Funds: Rs 2,000 per month

Gold (SGBs): Rs 1,000 per month

PPF: Rs 1,000 per month

This diversified approach helps reduce risk and maximize returns.

Expected Wealth Creation After 10 Years
The wealth you create depends on returns from different assets. Here’s an estimate:

Equity Mutual Funds: Can generate higher returns over 10 years.

Debt Mutual Funds: Provides stability with moderate returns.

Gold (SGBs): Prices depend on market demand and inflation.

PPF: Offers safe and steady returns.

You can expect to build a significant corpus by following this plan.

Why Not Index Funds?
Index funds do not offer active management.

They simply track market movements without strategy.

Actively managed mutual funds can beat index funds over time.

Fund managers adjust portfolios based on market conditions.

Higher potential for wealth creation with actively managed funds.

Final Insights
A mix of equity, debt, gold, and PPF creates a balanced portfolio.

Stay invested for 10 years to benefit from compounding.

Review your investments every year.

Consider increasing your SIP amount whenever possible.
