Career

Sir my niece is studying B. Pharm. She wants to study MBA after B.Pharm. She doesn't want to loss one year more for CAT preparation. She will appear CAT in 2025, without preparation but she is confident she will qualify only, may be 50 percentile. She has no expectation to get chance in IIM, FMS, JBIMS or SPJIMR, IMT wtc. She wants to study in Tier-II college only. Kindly give the name of few tier-II management college where she will try to get admission for PGDM or MBA and job placement also good. It may be in Kolkata, Bangalore, Greater Noida or any other.

Ans: Bangalore
IBS (ICFAI)– Around 60–70; About ~?7.4–7.8 LPA.
Alliance School of Business – Around 70 (but PGCET/other scores also used). Average ~?8.6–9.2 LPA

Kolkata
Globsyn Business School (GBS) – PGDM; MAT/XAT around 50. Average reported ~?7.4 LPA
Calcutta Business School (CBS) – PGDM; Averages roughly ?7.5–8 LPA

Noida / Greater Noida
GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research (GLBIMR), CAT 50 - 60; Averages around ?6–7 LPA
Jaipuria Institute of Management – PGDM; Average packages often in ?8–11 LPA

If she wants to leverage B.Pharm, consider MBA (Pharmaceutical Management) at NIPER (Mohali/Hyderabad/Ahmedabad). Admission is via NIPER-JEE (and typically GPAT background helps), not CAT—so no need to lose a year for CAT prep.

Hi Sir..I am 25 year old female currently thinking of giving cat exams.I graduated in 2020 from an engineering background.post that I started preparing for upsc full time ,which I have not been able to clear so far. I have no work experience and I do not wish to work in the IT sector.My academic profile is 95%,86%and 8.7 cgpa. So I want to ask you if doing an MBA from any IIM would ensure me a good placement provided I crack CAT and convert some IIM. Or I should join a tier 3 MBA clg in blore as a back up if I don't clear cat. I am very confused sir.so please help me.

Ans: It does not make sense to join a tier 3 MBA college if you have a potential to get into IIMs. Give a good shot for CAT and try to get into a good college. If you do not get admission in good college then can look at tier 2 or tier 3 colleges. If possible take up a job so that your gap does not increase.

Ans: It is possible to get into tier 2 college and get a decent job. But probability is low. Because of your age there is high chance that you may find difficulty in getting placement post your MBA. Also doing a full time MBA with 1 or 2 year child at home looks a tall order. Look out for short job oriented courses in the area of your interest.

Thank you for your response! I really appreciate your guidance. I scored 62 percentile in CAT this year, and due to certain circumstances, I am not in a position to take a drop. Given my situation, I want to pursue a full-time MBA or PGDM this year itself. I currently live in Delhi, so could you suggest suitable colleges where I can get admission with my percentile?

Ans: There are quite a few colleges. You will have to research. There is UBS Karjat, Christ Bangalore, Balaji Pune, etc. Can try and write MAT exam and see if you can score well and try colleges under that exam.

My daughter is persuing now B.pharm in JIS University, Kolkata. It will be completed in June, 2026. But in JIS University placement system is very weak. 15-18K monthly salary is available for B.Pharm graduate. She doesn't want to pursue M.Pharm. I am suggesting her to appear CAT exam in 2025. If can pass in CAT Exam in 2025 she will take admission in MBA in 2026. I have chooses two college for MBA. If she can score 60-70 percentile she will take admission in IMI, Kolkata. If CAT performance become very weak she will take admission in I Business Institute (IBI), Greater Noida. The give more importance on academic qualification, less in entrance exam. My daughter got above 93% mark in class 10 and 12. Even in B.Pharm she is expecting to score 85-90%. Sir I need your suggestion regarding this or if you suggest any other line kindly let me know.

Ans: Dont rush to take admission in any college. In MBA the college name matters in the long run. The fact that she has got good academic record shows that she is a good student. Another advantage is that she is a girl and pharmacy student which means she will get additional marks for gender diversity and academic diversity. Let her write CAT and if possible XAT. If she gets a good college then can take it up else let her repeat and write CAT again next year.
