Hello, My son is studying in 9th standard now CBSE in Bangalore. He's more interested in physics and chemistry. Until now he hasn't been to any tuitions or learning centre or academy. I usually take care of his studies and sometimes he manages by himself. But now i feel i should put him to tuitions since he'll be in 10th next academic year. Don't want to put him in big academies as they can hardly give attention to each and every kid. Can you please suggest what can i choose as i'm really confused.

Ans: Noted, you do not want to put your son in Coaching Centers and your Son is much interested in Physics & Chemistry.

Please note, to get admission into any reputed college (irrespective of branches / streams), he will definitely have to appear for some Entrance Exams and to be competitive among other students he should prepare well for same and also score well in his School/Board Exams.

Besides, he should definitely have a decent knowledge / score in Maths also (if he will opt for PCM in his 11th/12th Standard instead of Biology).

Now the options / suggestions (other than joining Coaching Center Class) (1) Either from 9th Standard now or from 10th/11th Standard, he can join DLP (Distance Learning Program) with any one of the Coaching Centres, preferably ALLEN which provides detailed Materials along with the questions at the end of each chapter) (2) ALLEN also provides Online Test Series to practice for each Chapter / Unit / Full Syllabus Chapter. (3) Almost all concepts of School Syllabus are covered in Coaching Center Materials apart from other Advanced Concepts / Questions to study / practice. (4) Some of the concepts / questions might be tough for your son with his self-study or with your help for which you will have to arrange for a Home Tutor for difficult subjects like Maths. Please note, most of the experienced home tutors charge on hourly basis. You will have to plan for number of classes required in a week / month and for the subjects your son needs.

Joining a Coaching Centre Or Having a Home Tutor has its own pros and cons. Decide which will be more suitable for your son.

All the Best for Your Son's Bright Future.

Hi Sir, My son studies in 8th grade in an IGCSE board school in Mumbai. He is keen to pursue Engineering and crack JEE exams. I want him to start preparing for it early and already motivating him to study syllabus of CBSE Maths not covered in IGCSE. He shows great excitement in the same and does it willingly. I shall also do the same for Science. My queries are as below. What do I do after his 10th boards? Should I ask him pursue AS and A boards or enrol him to an academy for an integrated study of 11th and 12th + JEE? I am keen to have private tutors for JEE studies. Will this be better than academy coaching? Should I enrol him in a Junior college for 11th and 12th and also ask him to prepare for JEE simultaneously? Thanks, Mehul
Ans: Hello Mehul. Your son is in 8th std. It is good to hear that he is doing good in his studies that too willingly. As he is in 8th std, it would be better to join him for 3 years Foundation Course for IIT-JEE (8th + 9th + 10th). Search these coaching institutes near by you if possible. Else you can purchase the excellent material provided by Matrushri Institute, Hyderabad. The material provided by this institute is excellent. Purchase the material, and search private tutors to complete the syllabus. After completing this course, Your son will be quite comfortable to face JEE syllabus. You decide about the JEE coaching institute only after his 10th examination. You better enroll his name In a Jr. College and then join best coaching center available near by your home.

Ans: Mehul Sir,

Thoroughly read your question Sir. Here-below are some Options / Important Suggestions & Why?:

Option-1

After he finishes his 8th Standard, you can get admission for him into any CBSE-School (or) Maharashtra State Board School which also has an integrated Program.

As far as I know, there are very less number of CBSE Schools. If you can get into any CBSE School, well and good.

If he joins any State Board Integrated School from the 9th itself, it is highly recommended to thoroughly go through the NCERT Books of 9th to 12th Standards which is most important for JEE preparation.

It is preferable to start early for JEE (from 9th standard to cover NCERT basic concepts), but not mandatory.

Option-2

If you decide NOT to discontinue from IGCSE till 10th standard, you will have to put him in any JEE-Integrated School for 11th/12th Standard.

However, it is advisable to go through the NCERT books of 9th/10th, whenever time permits for your son as the quantity of subjects/syllabus of IGCSE will be more, compared to CBSE.

Option-3

As you prefer Home Tutors, please note, highly experienced Home Tutors (especially for JEE-Advanced preparation) charge on hourly-basis and depending upon the subject (for example, tuition fee for Maths will be higher, compared to Physics & Chemistry).

Please choose the best option, suitable for you/for your son out of the above 3-options.

Some other value-added tips:

1) Please give more importance to Maths, followed by Physics, as JEE Rank is allotted on the basis of highest marks in Maths.
2) If you prefer an Integrated Program, make sure the School/Integrated Class is not too far from your home. Travel consumes/wastes lot of your valuable time.
3) For other PRACTICAL Strategies / Steps / Tips, please go through some of my answers below, related to JEE preparation.

All the BEST for Your Son's Bright Future.

Should i choose vit vellore cse or manipal bangalore cse? Vit is too overcrowded
Ans: VIT Vellore CSE and Manipal Bangalore CSE are both reputable choices, but they offer distinct experiences. VIT Vellore has a very large student intake—over 7,500 students placed in 2024 and 867 recruiters—resulting in a highly competitive environment where top placements go to the best-performing students, and the campus can feel overcrowded. The average CSE package at VIT is ?9.9 lakh, with high-profile recruiters like Microsoft, Amazon, and Cisco, but students often report that only the top tier secure the best offers, and the sheer batch size can dilute individual attention. Manipal Bangalore (MIT) CSE, while smaller in scale, offers a more personalized academic experience, modern infrastructure, and a placement rate of 77% in 2025, with an average package of ?11.76 lakh and recruiters such as Amazon, Bosch, and Cipla. Student life at Manipal is often described as more balanced and less stressful, with a strong alumni network and a campus culture that emphasizes holistic development. Both colleges have modern labs and good faculty, but Manipal’s manageable batch size and focused student support are notable advantages.

The recommendation is to choose Manipal Bangalore CSE for a more personalized learning environment, better student-faculty ratio, and a balanced campus life, especially if you are concerned about VIT’s overcrowding and highly competitive atmosphere, while still ensuring strong placement prospects and industry exposure. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Hi Sir, i am from maharashtra. My son got 98.77 in MHT CET, 95.37 in JEE. What are the best option you can suggest. Also appeared for COMEDK and got 3964 rank. Interested in CS. Please suggest .
Ans: With a 98.77 percentile in MHT CET (OBC NCL), 95.37 percentile in JEE Main, and a COMEDK rank of 3,964, your son is well positioned for Computer Science (CS) and related branches in strong colleges. For MHT CET, he is eligible for IT and possibly CSE in top government colleges like VJTI Mumbai, MIT WPU Pune, and PICT Pune, as the OBC cutoff for CSE at COEP Pune is typically above 99 percentile, making COEP CSE unlikely but IT and allied branches possible at these institutes. In JEE Main, NIT Puducherry and NIT Arunachal Pradesh are possible for CSE, but not the top NITs. Through COMEDK, his rank allows for CSE in reputable Bangalore colleges such as BIT Bangalore, SIT Tumkur, and possibly DSCE Bangalore, as their closing ranks for CSE are near or just above 4,000. All these colleges offer excellent placement records and academic environments for CS and IT.

The recommendation is to prioritize IT or allied branches at VJTI Mumbai, MIT WPU, or PICT Pune through MHT CET, target CSE in BIT Bangalore or SIT Tumkur via COMEDK, and consider NIT Puducherry or NIT Arunachal Pradesh for CSE through JEE Main, ensuring strong academic and placement prospects across all options. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Sir my daughter missed VIT exam but got 7,687 rank in AP EAMCET can we expect ECE in VIT AP
Ans: NeelkanthSir, With an AP EAMCET rank of 7,687, your daughter is on the borderline for Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at VIT-AP. The 2024 final phase closing rank for ECE at VIT-AP was 3,413 for OC boys and 5,852 for OC girls, while ECE (Embedded Systems) and ECE (VLSI Design) closed at 6,545 and 6,496 respectively for OC boys, and 7,464 and 4,792 for OC girls. For 2025, expected ECE closing ranks for top private colleges like VIT-AP are 3,500–6,500 for open category, and up to 8,000 for BC categories. Some sources indicate ECE at VIT-AP may be available up to 9,500 for BC and 12,000 for some special categories. Placement rates for ECE at VIT-AP are strong (over 90%), with top recruiters like Amazon, Microsoft, Infosys, and IBM, and the program is well-rated for infrastructure and faculty. However, competition for ECE is high, and last round cutoffs can fluctuate, especially for open category girls, where you have a slim but real chance.

The recommendation is to participate in all AP EAMCET counselling rounds for VIT-AP ECE, as your daughter is close to the cutoff and may secure a seat in the final or spot rounds, while also keeping backup options in similar-tier private colleges, as ECE at VIT-AP offers strong placements and academic quality. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!
