Ans: Congrats Satyam for this score. I would put Harcourt Butler Tech University, a very prestigious institution in the the State, and Computer Science branch more in the aspirational and dream institution category even in the third round. My suggestion is to widen the list of institutions to at least 10. Also opt for other branches like electrical, mechanical.

Ans: Hello, Congrats on your son's JEE Mains score of 89550. Or is the OBC non-creamy layer score? Is my assumption correct? DO LET ME KNOW POST HASTE. If this the overall score then your has a good chance of securing admission in lesser known NITs, newer IIITs as also in the government funded technical institutions. By narrowing down your choices of institutions near Chandigarh--closer home --may not be a good idea.

Ans: Chances of getting into Mathematics & Computing (M&C) Engineering at top colleges are slim, but you may get it in some newer or lower IIITs or state/private colleges through counselling. Keep M&C as an ambitious option and include CSE/IT/ECE backups too.

Ans: Chances at top NITs are very slim. But she may have some chance at lower/mid NITs or newer NITs for CSE/IT, depending on exact JoSAA cutoffs and round movement. Consider other lower branches for better chances of admission in further rounds.

Also, all branches are good; initially, she should choose a branch based on her interest or passion. However, she should remain adaptable as her preferences or job market trends may change by the 2nd or 3rd year. Regarding your daughter’s score, admission to NITs, IIITs, or top-tier GFTIs is unlikely. For general-category female candidates, even CSE-lite branches in newer IIITs usually require ranks under approximately 1.5 to 2.5 lakh. Still, it is advisable to register for JoSAA and CSAB-SPOT for possible core-branch or self-finance options in lesser-known GFTIs. Additionally, state counseling is important for government-aided colleges.
