Hello Sir, We are based out at Delhi, My son is getting Thapar COE and Jamia Electronic VLSI, percentile 95.98, kindly suggest which should be preferred from these options... He may be expecting some good outcomes from CSAB but not sure.

Ans: With a JEE Main percentile of 95.98, your son has a reasonable chance of admission in some mid-tier NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, but top NITs and IIITs generally require 97+ percentile. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Thapar, Patiala) is well-regarded, especially for its Computer Science and Engineering (COE) branch, offering nearly 90-100% placement rates in CSE/COE, with many top recruiters like Microsoft, Amazon, and DE Shaw. The faculty is research-oriented and the campus infrastructure is modern. Jamia Millia Islamia’s Electronics (VLSI Design and Technology) branch is a good choice for specialized VLSI and semiconductor careers, accredited and ranked well, but placement rates are moderate at about 60-70%, with some high-profile recruiters. Admission chances through CSAB to reputed NITs and IIITs for 95.98 percentile range are more restricted, with cutoffs typically favoring 97+ percentile for core branches like CSE and ECE.

Five essential institutional factors include accreditation (NAAC/NBA), experienced and research-active faculty, state-of-the-art labs and infrastructure, strong industry collaborations enabling internships and placements, and an active placement cell with a proven track record.

Recommendation: Prioritize Thapar Institute for COE due to its stronger placement outcomes, industry connections, and academic rigor. Jamia offers niche specialization in VLSI but with comparatively lower placement rates. Keep options open for CSAB counselling to explore mid-tier NITs or IIITs if rank and percentile improve slightly, aligning admissions with career goals and branch preferences. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!
