Hello, I am 44 years old and working in the govt.sector on contract basis. I have a technical background with mca degree an worked for 3 years in the technical line as a technical support and network operations initially before moving to non-tech fields. I also have some gaps in my work career. I am interested in upskilling and switch to data science/AI or cybersecurity. Is it a good choice to transition at this point into these careers and will the jobs in the field offer stability.

Ans: The prospects are great but you need to realize that you will have to work harder to fill the gaps and bring yourself up to speed with the basics in these areas and also gain exposure to the more advanced stuff. Each of these fields you mentioned are quite broad and have huge potential

Since you are already 47 and worked in the IT field, you should try to find a job in the same field. There is a good demand of AWS. If you seriously look for the job, you can easily get one.

Hi Sir, Iam working in IT Company which is my second org joined in 2022 as of holding 4.5 years experience. These days I'm getting less work as customer is not creating issues due to which manager has added me in another product too but to my surprise I got to know that is going to be end of life and now I'm with the product which is getting less customer issues. Manager asking me upskill which iam ready always. Iam planning to shift from Java to Data Analyst as I'm interested in it. Hence could you please suggest me is this right time to shift and take chance, in Sept I get 2 years completion with my current org.

Ans: If you are interested in the data analytics domain, shifting after 4 or 5 years of experience with Java would be a perfect move. Numerous resources are available for free on YouTube and at nominal costs on platforms like Udemy, Coursera, etc. I would suggest learning SQL, Python, and one of the business intelligence tools like PowerBI or Tableau, which will serve you very well. Hi.. I need some career related advice. I am now 45 years old and have 11.5 years of experience. I have lost job due to some health related issues and currently on path to recovery. I have a bachelor in Economics degree and PGDCA in computers. I have experience in various forms as Technical support officer in BPO, Network operations engineer with an IT firm, market research analyst and program associate/coordinator. I am currently pursuing upskilling online through certificate courses in data science and cybersecurity. Do you think this is a good time to do a masters in information technology/AI & machine learning from USA or do a PHd in a STEM field from USA? Or should i upskill and look for jobs in india? Please advice.

Ans: Doing Masters or doing PhD from USA would be a great option, but considering your profile if may be difficult to get it. If you plan to self finance it, the cost could be very high and may not be worth it. My suggestion would be to first look for relevant job in India (Relevant job experience could help you to secure admission to a good college in US). If you are happy with your job then continue with it, else look out for other options.

For NIT B.Arch., chances are moderate only in selected cases: NIT Patna may be possible mainly through the Home State/female quota; NIT Raipur/most top NITs look difficult in OS (open female) based on recent closings. Ans: You did not mention your home state. Try with private/state colleges such as Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, SRM, Manipal Jaipur, Chandigarh University, or strong state counselling colleges, depending on your domicile and budget.

Ans: For CSE, try Punjab Engineering College, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh University, and Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) - CGC Landran and CGC University, Mohali; among private colleges, CGC Landran/CGC University. Visit the campus in person before finalizing the admission based on online reviews, consultation, etc., as your daughter has to spend 4-5 years in the college and campus.

Ans: Amit, with SRMJEEE rank 4,101, SRM KTR main campus CSE Core is borderline/difficult, because many estimates place KTR CSE Core around 2,000–2,500, while CSE specializations may go up to around 8,000. So, CSE AI & ML at KTR is more realistic than CSE Core.

For job possibilities, CSE Core is slightly broader for software, cloud, data, product, and government/PSU flexibility; however, CSE AI & ML is also excellent if the student builds strong coding, DSA, Python, ML projects, internships and a GitHub portfolio. SRM’s official AI & ML page confirms it is a CSE specialization focused on AI/ML curriculum.

Recommendation: Choose KTR CSE Core if allotted; otherwise, KTR CSE AI & ML is a very good choice. Backups you can have are KTR CSE Data Science/Cyber Security/IT, SRM Ramapuram CSE, & SRM-AP-CSE. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!

Ans: You can take the risk of waiting for CSAB rounds. Meanwhile, keep safer backups like VIT Chennai or Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham active until CSAB results are finalized.

In your opinion will it be worth waiting for admission in iiits tier 2 like sonipat, una, dharwad, kottayam.

Ans: Yes, you can wait. But if you feel unsafe, you can take temporary admission to the preferred college and branch, assuming that if you get admission via CSAB, you may lose some amount paid. Some private institutes/universities refund the maximum amount, deducting an administrative charge. But you have to talk with them clearly about the refund of fees at the time of cancellation of admission. Many parents do this exercise, hoping that at most they will lose some amount!

Ans: Aayush, with a VITEEE rank of 31,553, VIT-AP CSE Core in Category 1 is possible but not 100% safe. Recent expected cut-off ranges show VIT-AP CSE Core Category 1 around 30,000–45,000, so your rank is within range. CSE AI/ML is safer, as expected, the category 1 range is around 45,000–60,000 in some counselling estimates. Another source estimates VIT-AP CSE Category 1 under 45,000 and CSE specializations around 60,000 for Category 1, again supporting good chances. However, VIT does not publish a fully transparent official branch-wise closing-rank PDF every year, so treat these as strong estimates, not guarantees.

The best preference can be VIT-AP CSE Core Category-1 → CSE AI/ML Category-1 → CSE AI&DS/Data Analytics/Cyber Security Cat 1 → VIT Bhopal CSE Category-1. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!

Sir , I am interested in taking admission at thapar , Patiala. Unfortunately, based on my marks, Computer Science may not be possible, but I still have options like ECE, Electrical, and VLSI. I am currently very confused because my priority is long-term career opportunities rather than existing interest, since I honestly don’t have enough exposure to any branch yet. I believe I can develop interest after learning the field properly. Could you please guide me from a practical career perspective: * Which branch currently has better placement opportunities and job security? * Which field has better scope in government exams/jobs and private sector too * Which branch offers better opportunities abroad in the future? * Which branch has stronger growth in the private sector over the next 5–10 years? * Between ECE, Electrical, and VLSI, which would you personally recommend for someone prioritizing career opportunities, flexibility, and future scope?

Ans: For long-term career growth, flexibility, placements, higher studies and future tech opportunities, Prefer Thapar ECE > VLSI > Electrical because ECE keeps both software and electronics careers open, has strong private-sector growth (chips, embedded systems, telecom, AI hardware), good abroad/MS opportunities, decent government-job eligibility, and usually better placement flexibility than pure Electrical, while VLSI is highly promising but more specialized and somewhat dependent on semiconductor industry growth. However, it is highly recommended to give importance to your basic interests. Without interest, if you will choose a branch and college for a brand name, the output will be zero. Be careful about your career plan. Give value to your interest only.

Good Morning Sir, My son has scored 99.19 percentile in JEE Mains and he prefers ECE over CSE in NITs What is the possibility of getting ECE in NITK ?

Ans: There is a chance of getting ECE/CSE at NIT KTR with HS, if you have it. Through the Other State quota, it is borderline to difficult in regular JoSAA rounds, but may become possible in later rounds depending on cutoff movement. Yet anything can happen during counselling. Keep a close eye on the counselling process and fill out the preferences very carefully.

Ans: Tripurari, With MET 92/240 + 85% CBSE, CSE at MIT Manipal's main campus is very unlikely. In 2025, MIT Manipal CSE closed around rank 5,129, and Bengaluru CSE around 11,331–13,834 across rounds, so your son’s likely rank may be beyond the Manipal/Bengaluru CSE range. Better chances are Manipal Jaipur CSE, where 2025 CSE closing was around 33,571, and SMIT Sikkim CSE/IT, where earlier CSE closing ranks were much higher. Preference can be MIT Bengaluru ECE/Electronics & Computer → MUJ CSE/AI/IT → SMIT CSE/IT. All the Best for Your Son's Prosperous Future!
