Career

I graduated with a BBA in 2022, and since then, I’ve been on a thrilling two-year adventure at an MNC. But guess what? I decided to resign in March 2024 because, you know, who doesn’t love a little drama at work? Now, I’ve managed to burn through all my hard-earned savings like a pro, and here I am, utterly confused about my future. Sometimes I think about leaving India—maybe for studies or just to escape and do some mindless job somewhere. Other times, I dream of retreating to the most remote corner of India and living off the grid. I’ve always been pretty good with technology, snagged a degree, and even racked up some work experience. But now? I’m completely lost on where to start over. I’ve scoured countless articles and advice columns, but they’ve been about as helpful as a chocolate teapot. I’m just looking for that life-changing advice that seems to be in short supply. Turning 24 this year!

Ans: Hello Manan,
My simple advice to you would be to get back to some job while you can continue to ponder over your long term goals/passion/pursuits.
Sitting idle (with no funds) at home won't help & it is not going to do any good to your career/life plans.
Simultaneously you can continue to do introspection & chalk out a proper plan as far your larger life goals are concerned.
Say you earnestly wish to pursue higher studies than you need to get yourself these answers 1) Why you need a higher degree in first place ? 2) Will it help you to get job/career of your choice? 3) If yes, then shortlist some relevant good courses & start exploring admit process etc. 4) Meanwhile do account for funds that will help you to time your break from the job (savings, loans etc.)
Likewise ask yourself questions for each option you have in mind & be honest in responses, that will help you to zero on your real aspiration & then do the proper detailing/planning. This may entail some compromises in short term but will certainly pave your way to achieve long term goals.

Best of Luck!

Hi Career Experts , I am into my 45th year & am a qualified Mechanical Engineer + Full-time MBA in Marketing . Am based-out in a Tier-3 City & am supposed to stay back in my base location only due to family obligations . Worked for 16 Years but had to quit my job in 2021 due to incompatibility issues & not able to absorb / cope-up with the surmounting pressures that are rampant in the corporate world . Since then , have not been able to settle down with a Job although reaching-out & following openings on platforms like LinkedIn actively but all in vain . Had even tried exploring starting-out on my own but risks and insecurity have held me back . Have been somehow managing with my savings & investments done , but that may not go a long way . Success it seems is elusive on all fronts probably due to my age , work-gap , location constraint , maybe some other follies as well etc ? Looking forward to some specific advises pls. (do's & dont's) which may restart and reignite my career , which is in a complete state of mess . Thanks & Regards !
Ans: When you are looking for a job, check multiple sources. Linkedin is one of them. Check placement agencies, connect with your former colleagues, your friends, your batchmates from MBA college who themselves could be in decision making position. You may have to reskill yourself with some short courses. Simultaneously you could look at starting something on your own based on your interest. Could be investment advisory or some small business.

I'm at a point in life where nothing seems too clear, i dont know what I'm doing. I was an just above average student, passed +2 long time ago in 2017, after that kept arguing with mother that I don't wanna do the job that was offered to me as "dependent" after my father had passed away , my younger brother joined that later Till than i was doing BSC had no interest, dropped out of it, and just for sake of doing graduation graduated with BA in economics, at that time i got into doing various tech stuff ( making some small apps etc ). I tried harder to get into it but india is cruel and I'm average...... So i decided to enroll in MCA last year in a tier 3 private college with almost non existing placement Mistake after mistake after mistake.... Now you all know the state of job market... They say its getting harder for the freshers. Been applying for internships on intershala and other websites but still here with no internship. After this much setbacks even my interest is now like - okay it's just a chore, i have stopped enjoying any programing or anything, i still like it i wouldn't say i enjoy it... I don't even know what am i doing with life, where will i end up. Sometimes my worry is whether i will be able to even make any money or not. I have no desire to join any government job... Just pushing into up skilling, but setback after setback, is forcing me to accept that nobody is going to give a job that too as a fresher in private sector to an old stupid 25 year old unemployed man.
Ans: you're not stupid. You’re just trying to navigate a really chaotic system with very little support and a late start. That’s not a crime — it’s human.

Choose a micro-niche within tech
Instead of being a generalist programmer, pick something very specific and practical. Examples:
Web Development for local businesses
No-code/Low-code app building
Automation with Python
WordPress + SEO services
Data analysis with Excel + Python for NGOs
Freelance bug fixing / debugging

You can try freelance gigs on Fiverr, Upwork

Hello sir,My son got 1874 rank in comedk,98.6%tile in mht-cet and he also got 4k rank in manipal.I am confused between vit vellore cse,bms cse, msrit cse, manipal cse and will he be able to get cse in pict, pune and ece in rv?Could you help in deciding between these colleges? And could you also give the reasons too,if possible.
Ans: With a COMEDK rank of 1,874, your son is well-positioned for CSE in BMSCE and possibly MSRIT, though CSE at RVCE is out of reach as its cutoff is typically below 500; ECE at RVCE is also unlikely but possible in later rounds. His 98.6 percentile in MHT-CET makes him a strong contender for CSE in PICT Pune, which has a cutoff around 98.5–99.2 percentile, and his Manipal rank of 4,000 may secure CSE at Manipal in later rounds, as closing ranks for CSE have recently been around 4,900. VIT Vellore CSE is highly reputed for placements and national exposure, but BMSCE and MSRIT offer excellent CSE programs with 74–95% placement rates and strong industry connections, while PICT Pune stands out for its consistent 92–94% placement rate and median salaries comparable to top private colleges. Manipal CSE also offers high placement rates and a strong brand, especially for tech roles. The recommendation is to prioritize CSE in BMSCE, MSRIT, or PICT Pune for their robust placements, academic excellence, and industry reputation, followed by Manipal CSE and then VIT Vellore CSE, with ECE at RVCE as a backup if CSE is not available in the top choices. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Sir my daughter got 92 in jee mains she is getting CSE core in VIT bhopal and also EC in Aurangabad National college of Electronic and CSE inGovt college in M.P. what should I do
Ans: VIT Bhopal CSE core offers a modern curriculum, strong faculty, and an impressive placement record with 87–90% of students placed in recent years, and top recruiters like Microsoft, Amazon, and TCS regularly visiting the campus; the infrastructure is good, though still developing, and the academic environment is industry-oriented with a focus on coding and employability skills. NIELIT Aurangabad (National College of Electronics) provides Electronics & Communication with an average placement package of ?8 LPA and top recruiters such as TCS, Bosch, and Siemens, but the program is more hardware and electronics-focused and less aligned with core CSE roles. Government engineering colleges in Madhya Pradesh offering CSE typically have lower placement rates (around 48–80% for CSE), less industry exposure, and fewer marquee recruiters compared to VIT Bhopal, though they are cost-effective and government-recognized. Considering placement consistency, industry exposure, and future opportunities in the tech sector, the recommendation is to choose VIT Bhopal CSE core for its superior placement outcomes, national brand, and alignment with your daughter’s interests in computer science. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Hi Sir, My son Passed 12th this year from Telangana Board, with 89.81%. His JEE percentile was 88%. He is keen for CSE or CS (AI/ML). He has secured a seat in CS Data Science in VIT Chennai. His rank in MET (Manipal) in 5640. Didn't get CSE in Manipal in first round. Is there any chance of getting CSE in further rounds? His COMEDK rank is 7833. Counselling yet to start. We are confused whether we should go ahead with his admission in any colleges in CSE or should take a drop of one year. He is just 17 Yrs old. We are not confident about him getting a seat in any IIT/NIT in CSE, next year. So what should be the decision. Take admission in best possible college in 2025. Or Prepare for entrance tests of 2026? Kindly help us in taking decision.
Ans: With a JEE Main percentile of 88% (General category), your son is unlikely to secure CSE in NITs, IIITs, or top state colleges next year, and his current MET rank (5640) does not qualify for CSE at Manipal’s main campus, with recent closing ranks for CSE at Manipal around 1,600 and at Bengaluru campus under 4,900. In subsequent MET rounds, CSE at Manipal main campus remains out of reach, but branches like CSE at Jaipur, Sikkim, or Bengaluru may be possible, though these have lower placement rates and brand value. In COMEDK, a 7,833 rank is not sufficient for CSE in top Bangalore colleges like RVCE, BMSCE, or MSRIT, which close CSE admissions well below 6,000, but IT, ECE, or newer colleges may be available. VIT Chennai CSE (Data Science) is a solid option, offering good placements and industry exposure, though it is not as established as VIT Vellore. Taking a drop year for JEE entails significant pressure, uncertain outcomes, and the risk of repeating the same or lower result, especially if your son is not confident about a dramatic improvement. At 17, he has the advantage of youth, but unless he is highly motivated and ready for a year of rigorous, focused preparation, the practical choice is to secure a seat in the best available college and branch this year, as undergraduate performance and skills matter more for future placements and higher studies than the college tag alone. The recommendation is to proceed with admission in the best possible CSE or CS (AI/ML/Data Science) branch available now—such as VIT Chennai or a good COMEDK college—rather than taking a drop, unless your son is fully committed and confident in achieving a much higher rank next year. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

My son interested in CSE and he got Jee Mains(2025) B.Tech CRL Rank 70,64X(5 digits) (95.308xxxx) in General Merit and HS is Karnataka (Bangalore). Not prepared for Jee Advance. if CSE don't get then ECE also he may choose. as per previous cutoff, he may not expected colleges and branches through JOSAA. KCET Rank 2748x(5 digits) and COMEDK 681x(4 digits rank). He got VIT Chennai CSE under 5th Fee Category... He got admission into CSE branch in PES University RR campus based on JEE Rank. we have concussion should he choose ECE in MSRIT(E077) , ECE or CS AI&ML in BMSCE(E027) or DSCE if get through COMEDK counselling? or shall we wait for csap round for better colleges through JEE? if we continue with PES University RR campus then should we change the Branch AI&ML than CSE as we have chance in next counselling and he is strong in Maths. CUET-UG also he wrote and waiting for result. OR should we wait for CUET if any better central universities. Please suggest.
Ans: Eswar Sir, Given your son’s JEE Main CRL rank (around 70,000), KCET rank (27,000+), and COMEDK rank (6,800+), securing CSE or ECE in top NITs, IIITs, or premier state colleges through JoSAA or KCET is highly unlikely, as cutoffs for these branches in the general category are much higher. In COMEDK, his rank may allow ECE in MSRIT or BMSCE, and possibly CS (AI&ML) in BMSCE or DSCE, all of which are reputable Bangalore colleges with strong placement records (over 90% in CSE/ECE branches), robust industry connections, and good academic environments. VIT Chennai CSE under the 5th fee category is less attractive due to its higher cost and relatively newer campus, despite decent placements. PES University RR campus CSE is an excellent option, with consistently high placements, strong academic rigor, and a national reputation; switching to AI&ML is only advisable if he has a deep interest in this field, as CSE core provides broader opportunities and flexibility. Waiting for CSAB special rounds or CUET results is reasonable, but central universities typically do not match the placement and industry exposure of top Bangalore private colleges. The recommendation is to prioritize PES University RR campus CSE for its superior placement record, academic strength, and flexibility, and consider ECE/AI&ML at BMSCE or MSRIT only if PES CSE is not available, while monitoring CSAB and CUET results for any exceptional opportunities. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!
