Career

My son got 93.4 percentile jee main . He got eee bit mesra and cse in srm ktr which prospect is better?

Ans: Sharmistha Madam, prefer BIT-M-EEE. Explore more options for your daughter as back-ups by knowing the JoSAA Counselling Opening & Closing Ranks of last year. Step 1: Collect Your Key Details
Before starting, note down the following details:

Your JEE Main percentile
Your category (General-Open, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD categories)
Preferred institute types (NIT, IIIT, GFTI)
Preferred locations (or if you're open to any location in India)
List of at least 3 preferred academic programs (branches) as backups (instead of relying on just one option)
Step 2: Access JoSAA’s Official Opening & Closing Ranks
Go to Google and type: JoSAA Opening & Closing Ranks 2024
Click on the first search result (official JoSAA website).
You will land directly on JoSAA’s portal, where you can enter your details to check past-year cutoffs.
Step 3: Select the Round Number
JoSAA conducts five rounds of counseling.
For a safer estimate, choose Round 4, as most admissions are settled by this round.
Step 4: Choose the Institute Type
Select NIT, IIIT, or GFTI, depending on your preference.
If you are open to all types of institutes, check them one by one instead of selecting all at once.
Step 5: Select the Institute Name (Based on Location)
It is recommended to check institutes one by one, based on your preferred locations.
Avoid selecting ‘ALL’ at once, as it may create confusion.
Step 6: Select Your Preferred Academic Program (Branch)
Enter the branches you are interested in, one at a time, in your preferred order.
Step 7: Submit and Analyze Results
After selecting the relevant details, click the ‘SUBMIT’ button.
The system will display Opening & Closing Ranks of the selected institute and branch for different categories both Home State (HS) i.e. State you belong to & also Other State (OS).
Step 8: Note Down the Opening & Closing Ranks
Maintain a notebook or diary to record the Opening & Closing Ranks for each institute and branch you are interested in, separately for HS & OS Categories for a quick reference.
This will serve as a quick reference during JoSAA counseling.
Step 9: Adjust Your Expectations on a Safer Side
Since Opening & Closing Ranks fluctuate slightly each year, always adjust the numbers for safety.
Example Calculation:
If the Opening & Closing Ranks for NIT Delhi | Mechanical Engineering | OPEN Category show 8622 & 26186 (for Home State), consider adjusting them to 8300 & 23000 (on a safer side).
If the Female Category rank is 34334 & 36212, adjust it to 31000 & 33000.

Follow this approach for Other State candidates and different categories.
Pro Tip: Adjust your expected rank slightly lower than the previous year's cutoffs for realistic expectations during JoSAA counseling.

Can This Method Be Used for JEE April & JEE Advanced?
Yes! You can repeat the same steps after your April JEE Main results to refine your admission possibilities.
You can also follow a similar process for JEE Advanced cutoffs when applying for IITs.

Good evening Sir, My daughter ranked 43000 in COMEDK, In which college she has chance to get Computer Science? Please guide Sir.
Ans: Archana Madam, With a COMEDK All-India rank around 43 000, several credible Karnataka institutes offer computer science seats well beyond this closing rank, ensuring guaranteed admission. These colleges excel in accreditation, infrastructure, faculty expertise, industry linkages, and transparent outcomes, and have historically closed CSE admissions at ranks higher than 43 000:

Government-Aided and Deemed Universities
Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai (offered via COMEDK) – NAAC A+ accreditation, specialized AI/ML labs, 75–85% CSE placements.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru – NBA-accredited, modern computing facilities, 70–80% CSE placements.
GITAM University, Bengaluru – NAAC A+; CSE closing rank ~68 663, robust industry partnerships, research centres in data analytics and cybersecurity.

Private Engineering Colleges
P.D.A. College of Engineering, Kalaburagi – COMEDK CSE GM closing ~97 828, strong regional recruiter network, modern programming and networking labs.
Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology, BG Nagar – NBA-accredited, extensive IoT and cloud-computing facilities, regular campus drives.
Bapuji Institute of Engineering & Technology, Davangere – AICTE-approved, high-performance computing clusters, consistent 70–80% CSE placements.
Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru – NAAC A; CSE closing ~13 500–14 000 but generous management-quota seats open till ~60 000, strong software-development cell.
RV Institute of Technology & Management, Bengaluru – modern software labs, faculty with industry backgrounds, CSE cutoff under management quota ~60 000.
CMR Institute of Technology, Bengaluru – COMEDK CSE closing ~38 556, but management-quota allotments extend to ~80 000; active coding clubs and hackathons.
REVA University, Bengaluru – NAAC A, autonomous curriculum, extensive research in AI, management-quota CSE admissions beyond 50 000.

Recommendation: Prioritise GITAM University Bengaluru for its proven high closing rank, NAAC A+ status, and strong data-science research ecosystem; choose P.D.A. College Kalaburagi for its extensive CSE closing rank buffer and regional industry ties; and consider Bapuji Institute Davangere for balanced infrastructure, accreditation, and placement continuity. All the BEST for Admission and a Prosperous Future!

Hello Sir My son is confused between three option First is MSRIT mechanical engineering second Dayanand sagar college of engineering Electronic engineering and lastly BIT mesra civil engineering. He is passionate about civil engineering but also not fully convinced due to bad placement of the particular branch. Please guide us sir
Ans: MSRIT’s Mechanical Engineering department is renowned for its robust curriculum, 90–95% placement consistency, and a faculty with extensive research credentials and over 40% holding doctorates. The institute offers modern labs, strong industry collaborations, and a vibrant alumni network, ensuring well-rounded technical and professional growth for students. Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering’s Electronics Engineering program is NBA-accredited, with modern infrastructure, research-oriented faculty, and a placement rate of about 70–75% for electronics-related branches; the college’s electronics graduates benefit from Bangalore’s tech ecosystem and active industry tie-ups. BIT Mesra’s Civil Engineering programme is NAAC-accredited with state-of-the-art labs, comprehensive exposure to modern tools, and a placement rate of 60–65% over the past three years, with many students opting for higher studies or government roles. While civil engineering placements are comparatively lower, the branch offers strong research orientation and prepares graduates for diverse opportunities in infrastructure and public sector domains.

Recommendation: If passion for civil engineering is paramount, BIT Mesra offers a solid academic foundation and research focus, but placement rates are modest. For a blend of strong placements and technical exposure, MSRIT Mechanical is the preferred choice; Dayananda Sagar Electronics is suitable for those seeking industry-driven roles in Bangalore’s technology sector. All the BEST for Admission & a Prosperous Future!
