Can I switch to PCM after 12th PCB to appear for JEE Main and Advanced in 2026?

Rajesh Kumar Singh is a mining engineer with 28 years of work experience.
During his career, he has served as the head of the mining department and as vice president of Balasore Alloys. He is currently a visiting professor at Mewar University where he teaches BTech students.
Rajesh Kumar topped his batch in BTech mining from BIT, Sindri.
A gold medallist, he has cracked the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) twice -- in 1993 and 1994 -- with an All India Rank of 14 in 1994.

I have done my 12th with PCB in 2023 now doing Bsc,I wanted to appear for jee main adv in 2026 and if I did my 12th again with PCM for this through NIOS boards,will all it work out?

Sir,I have read Imf bulletin of jee but their it is not mentioned about candidates changing stream and reapearing 12th.

Eligibility says,candidate can give jee if he is appearing 10+2 or in next two consecutive yrs (3attempts for mains 2 for adv),but it's also my 1st attempt with PCM,but 1st time 12th passing is 2023.I am not clear!!

Ans: Hello Dear.
Yes, if you appear for your 12th again through NIOS in the 2025–26 session and pass in 2026, then you will be eligible for JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2026, as your new qualifying exam year will be 2026. I would like to suggest that instead of wasting time on JEE (M) and JEE (A), appear for a state-level engineering test and score well to get admission to a top-tier college without any headache. In the final year of UG, appear for GATE and clear it to get admission to PG in IIT. This is the golden path to enter into IIT.

Yes you can give 12th through NIOS with 5 subjects. But remember you can only give JEE 3 consecutive years from your 1st appearance in 12th.

Ans: Hello, and thank you for writing to me. Investing in small-cap funds should not be based on trying to time a “pullback,” as this is difficult to predict consistently.

Small-cap funds can offer high growth potential over the long term, but they are also more volatile and can see sharp corrections in the short term. If the investment horizon is 5+ years and there is comfort with such volatility, investing through SIPs is a better approach rather than waiting for the “right time.”

If already investing, it is advisable to continue SIPs. If starting fresh, one can begin with a SIP instead of a lumpsum.

Overall, small-cap funds can be part of a portfolio, but allocation should be limited and aligned with risk appetite, as returns are subject to market risks.

Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully.

Sir I got 85.94 percentile ( OBC NCL ) from Maharashtra so sir is there any NIT possible in any branch or Sir will you please recommend any GOOD gov college with GOOD branch

Ans: Chances with NITs are nil. But you can try with newer NITs like NIT Mizoram / Nagaland / Arunachal Pradesh. It would be better to try with COEP, VJTI, etc or good branches in state colleges through MHT-CET/JEE CAP rounds.

Ans: Bharti Madam, At 77 percentile, NIT/IIIT/GFTI chances through normal JoSAA are very low. Since he is OCI, check whether he must apply through DASA/CSAB-DASA, because DASA is the official route for foreign national/OCI/PIO/NRI candidates for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and it requires a valid JEE Main rank plus Class 12 eligibility. Realistically, at this percentile, expect only low-demand branches or vacant-seat possibilities, not CSE/ECE in good NITs/IIITs. Still register for CSAB/DASA special rounds, as CSAB fills seats after JoSAA. It is advisable to have 5-6 reputed private engineering colleges also as backup options. Ans: Harsh, Based on your score, CSE/ECE/IT/MnC in NIT/IIIT/GFTI is almost not possible through JoSAA. Still register for JoSAA + CSAB Special Rounds, as CSAB fills vacant NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats after JoSAA. But at this rank, even lower branches may be difficult and do not depend on NIT/IIIT/GFTI for tech branches. Better backups are Bihar UGEAC/state counselling, private colleges with fee control, CUET-based central universities, AKTU/MPDTE/REAP/HSTES if eligible, and affordable options like GECs/state engineering colleges. For CSE/IT, prefer a decent state/private college with good coding culture over an unrelated weak branch. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!

Ans: Based on your daughter's score, NIT Surathkal CSE/ECE is unlikely, but try EEE/Mechanical/Chemical/Civil/Mining/Metallurgy under the home-state quota. For CSE/ECE, give priority to IIIT Kottayam, IIIT Dharwad, IIIT Kalyani, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Ranchi, IIIT Bhopal, IIIT Una and newer IIITs through CSAB, where vacancies may help. For NITs, try NIT Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Goa, Agartala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, or Sikkim for ECE/EEE or lower branches.
