Ans: You can go for the medical or arts field where in you can completely drop mathematics.

With basic math, you can go for commerce.

Ans: He can take math as one of the core subjects and study statistics in university. Applied math is also an option in university. What are his other interests, if I may know?

My daughter wants to take commerce stream in XI considering Accounting, Business studies, applied Math, Economics and Information practices. She has no idea of what she choose. She has a little love for math today. Will this be a right track? As per the previous results, she had some interests in humanities group (including economics) which reflected into numbers she got. But now she has been a bit confused. Please advice.

Ans: It’s great to hear that your daughter is considering Commerce stream in XI. Commerce is a popular stream of education that deals with various aspects of business, trade, accounting, financial information/transactions, and merchandising. The subjects that are taught under the Commerce stream in Class 11 comprise Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Statistics, Mathematics, and Informatics Practices.

Based on your message, it seems like your daughter has an interest in Mathematics and Economics. Hello Sir, My son is entering class 11 and would like to pursue science. He is interested in doing Computer science but not so very much interested in studying mathematics. He finds biology more interesting but would not like to pursue Medical stream. But to get into Engineering college through JEE etc. one must be very good in maths. How do we tackle this problem?

Ans: Hi,
JEE tests students in PCM and to get into any IIT you need to appear 2 papers of PCM while for NITs or IIITs 1 paper of PCM. There is no way to go for CS without mathematics. Even in engineering there will be 2-4 papers of mathematics. You will have to ask your son to create interest in maths. There is no way out.

I was advised by one doctor to take Ecosprin AV 75 while two other doctors advised me to stop it as it can be harmful in the long run. My sugar levels are 6.2 Hb1AC and triglycerides 81. Cholestrol levels are also normal.

Ans: Aspirin and Statin are suggested based on the risk for cardiovascular disease. Diabetes is a big risk factor. If you have even one more risk factor, it makes sense to take Aspirin and Statin, to maintain your LDL below 70. You have not mentioned your LDL. I would recommend you get one formal consultation to understand the various risk factors and interventions.

My total cholestrol is only 99 with HDL at 33 and LDL at 55 and the VLDL is 11. Trygliciride is also 66. Is low HDL a cause for concern even though total is very low. My levels has always been like this with maximum total being at 125.

Ans: There are a lot of genetic variations in cholesterol levels from family to family. By and large these numbers are ok. HDL can be improved a little with regular exercise.

Ans: The level is ok as far as fasting sugar goes. It would also help to know the actual liver numbers and the HBA1C , which is the 3 months avg of the sugar levels. That would help understand the level of sugar control better. And sugar control is very important for the liver as well, among other precautions.

I am 73 years old male. I am physically active & do 8 to 10 km very fast walk( 7.0km/hour) for 5 days in a week & yoga everyday. I do consume alcohol once or twice in a week amounting to about 500 ml per week. I regularly go through LFT. I have a doubts about AST & ALT & its ratio.My average of last 4 years AST is 29.35 & ALT 14.65. Though it is well within the limit the average of last 4 AST to ALT ratio is 2.1. It is much more than desired of less than 1. Is it ok? Is my lever fine. Last ultrasound done shows normal findings. Please advise. My weight is 82 kgs & height 6 feet

Ans: The numbers are quite ok but the elevation in the AST is secondary to alcohol and it is a very mild elevation, still within normal range. But as we get older our systems are less tolerant, so it would be better to watch the intake of alcohol and keep it a bit lower still.

Ans: If this is a new phenomenon, it maybe because of a change in your digestion or your gut bacteria. Generally, though curd has good bacteria, it also has some lactose. Hello I am 46 year old and married since last 21 years and one son age 20. My problem is when I m away from for job and other reason. My wife takes excessive liquor day and night. all of our family members tried to advise her to stop her but she is sinking. she is very much addictive to this. Due to this my son is getting affected in his studies. We all are confused and distrubed. what should we do.

Ans: She will need urgent intervention. Possibly a rehab program. Can you first have her see a psychiatrist perhaps? Sometimes these addictive behaviours stem from underlying anxiety or depression.
