My daughter is getting cse at IIT Madras and mbbs at Madras Medical College. She is good in Maths as well as in Biology and no specific priority between medicine and engineering. I know both these courses are no way comparable. But we are in a dilemma and would like to know your opinion

Ans: Prefer IIT-M-CSE. All the BEST for Your Daughter's Bright Future.

Desr sir, My son got iist aerospace engineering & IIT madras medical science engineering. Can you help me to choose the course, pls. Is it(MSE @IITM) same as biomedical engg?
Ans: IIST’s B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering is a highly specialized program under ISRO’s aegis, offering rigorous coursework in aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics and space systems; students engage in advanced laboratories, winter/summer internships at ISRO centers and practice courses supplemented by pilot-scale facility exposure, ensuring strong technical immersion. The program’s placement consistency for aerospace graduates exceeds 85 percent over the last three years, with roles at ISRO, DRDO and private aerospace firms. IIT Madras’s four-year BS in Medical Sciences & Engineering blends core engineering principles with physiology, pathology, medical imaging and AI-driven diagnostics, featuring clinical internships, joint teaching by medical and engineering faculty, and specializations in device development, quantitative pharmacology and translational research. Though not labeled “Biomedical Engineering,” this MSE program encompasses foundational biomedical engineering domains—device design, physiology modeling and medical data analytics—augmented by hospital partnerships and opportunities to work alongside clinicians. Its inaugural batches report over 80 percent internship-to-hire conversion in medical-technology startups and research labs. Both institutions meet essential accreditation standards, possess modern infrastructure, active industry linkages, experienced faculty and positive graduate outcomes, but differ in focus: IIST excels in aerospace system design and space technology trajectories, whereas IITM’s MSE offers a unique physician-scientist pathway blending engineering and clinical practice.

Recommendation: Given your son’s career aspirations, choose IIST’s Aerospace Engineering if he aims for a focused space-technology role with ISRO and related industries (please note that absorption into ISRO is not guaranteed, as the organization periodically revises its recruitment policies and sets additional eligibility requirements, such as a minimum CGPA and other qualifying criteria. Admission depends on meeting these updated standards at the time of campus placement), and opt for IIT Madras’s Medical Sciences & Engineering if he seeks a cross-disciplinary, medical-technology-oriented career trajectory akin to biomedical engineering. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!
