Sir, I am currently working in a IT Service company and aged 45 years. I had completed MCA in regular mode with 70%. I would like to know if I can pursue PhD in Computer Science. Ans: Hello Rajya, Your son has picked National Forensic Sciences University for Cyber Security program, which is a great pick but his OBC score (I hope abc rank was a typo) of 4252 does not offer much hope in the better campuses of NFSU like Gandhi Nagar, Delhi, even Dharwad simply because there are only 40 seats in each of the ten odd campuses. Opt for all campuses and some of them may get you a slim chance. And even AP domicile does not offer any reservation. NITs, IIITs and govt funded technical institutions and they may offer him options in Computer science and your son could specialise in Cyber Security.

I would put Harcourt Butler Tech University, a very prestigious institution in the the State, and Computer Science branch more in the aspirational and dream institution category even in the third round. My suggestion is to widen the list of institutions to at least 10. Also opt for other branches like electrical, mechanical.

If this the overall score then your has a good chance of securing admission in lesser known NITs, newer IIITs as also in the government funded technical institutions. By narrowing down your choices of institutions near Chandigarh--closer home --may not be a good idea.

Ans: Chances of getting into Mathematics & Computing (M&C) Engineering at top colleges are slim, but you may get it in some newer or lower IIITs or state/private colleges through counselling. Keep M&C as an ambitious option and include CSE/IT/ECE backups too.

Ans: Chances at top NITs are very slim. But she may have some chance at lower/mid NITs or newer NITs for CSE/IT, depending on exact JoSAA cutoffs and round movement. Consider other lower branches for better chances of admission in further rounds.
