Hi, I am a 30-year-old engineer with a B.Tech in mechanical engineering. I worked in the manufacturing sector for 6 years but recently got laid off. I feel stuck and uncertain. Should I upskill in IT, pursue an MBA, or stick to my domain? With so much competition, I am overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. How can I identify the best career path for me?

Ans: Dear Sir/ Madam,

Learning never stops. Until you get a job you can definitely look at upskilling yourself as per your interest. By not doing anything it will only stress you instead use the time and learn a new skill and in parallel keep the job hunt on. If you want to switch to IT then yes you can definitely think on the similar lines. Studying further will only add value to your career.

I'm a Mechanical Engineering graduate, 25. I did a lot of trial and error method in my career as I didn’t know what to do. Company X - 6 months (Project management-Electronic based) Company Y - 3 months (Software engineer) Post that, I wanted to get into merchant navy as a marine engineer. I got selected in one of the renowned companies in india and got sponsored, Passed out as a topper and sailed for 3 months until I could realize that this even more harder than anything I had done, both physically and mentally. Now, I'm at crossroads not knowing what to do and because of my profile, I'm not getting any jobs also. Kindly, share your valuable advice on the same.

Ans: I would say your have two qualifications--Mech Engg and Marine Engg plus experience in project Mgt, Sw devept. Use this valuable and wide ranging experience only very few will have. Do look for a job that is of interest to you. Put in your best and move ahead.

Hello sir I am 30 years old, I have been working as a marine Engineer in a ship from last 5 years. But my work is so frustrating that I don't want to do it anymore, but since I need money to feed my family I am doing this job, I have father mother and wife , who has expectations from me , sometimes I think I should do MBA but that too require preparation money and time , but I don't know whether I will be happy after that or not , can you help in deciding how should I navigate my life in career prospective, how can I find right career for myself Kindly guide me to the right path Thank you.

Ans: One option is to do online courses (MBA or any other field) and try to move into different field. Second option is to look for other relevant jobs. I believe there are jobs for marine engineer on land as well. Can look at those options.

I've been weighing my options and I am not able to decide if I should just keep applying while I try to upskill, or Should I just join some placements assistance courses or Should I plan to go for higher studies and try for GATE? Ans: Best option is GATE. If you can score high percentile in GATE, you may get IITs, then your life will change

What should be minimum marks to get in MH CET to decide eligibility to pursue career in engineering

Ans: To be eligible for engineering admissions via MHT CET, candidates must pass Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Mathematics compulsory, plus Chemistry/Biology/Biotech/Technical Vocational subject, securing minimum 45% aggregate marks (40% for reserved categories/PwD from Maharashtra State only). There are no minimum marks required in the MHT CET exam itself—just appear in all relevant subjects and get a non-zero score to qualify for counseling; admission depends on percentile/rank. Ans: Eetting ECE at Coimbatore is possible, but Slab 1 is very unlikely; expect mostly Slab 2/3 chances in later rounds.
