My son has got 91%tile in jee mains. He has got IT branch at VIT Vellore in category 5, he has also got CSE (data science) in NMIMS mumbai. What should we choose. Results of other exams like MHT CET, MET Manipal and ComedK are not yet out. He has secured 132 marks in MET (Manipal) and 67.3 as PCM avg in board and aggregate 73 in board.
Ans: With a 91 JEE Main percentile (AIR ~85,000), securing IT at VIT Vellore (Category 5) is feasible given its 2024 cutoff range of 19,200–19,500, though higher fees (?7.8L tuition + ?4.23L hostel) apply. NMIMS Mumbai’s CSE (Data Science), requiring NMIMS CET ranks (~12,000–15,000), offers a niche curriculum with industry partnerships (TCS, IBM) but lacks VIT’s ABET accreditation and established engineering reputation (NIRF #11 vs. NMIMS #101-150). His MET score of 132 (rank ~18,000–25,000) may qualify for ECE/IT at Manipal Bengaluru (2024 cutoff: ~23,458–34,532). While VIT provides stronger core IT infrastructure (smart labs, 980+ recruiters), NMIMS’s data science focus aligns with emerging tech trends. Board marks (73%) may limit state exam options; await MHT CET/COMEDK for potential CSE in regional colleges. Prioritize VIT for institutional legacy or NMIMS for specialization, pending further results. All the BEST for your Son's Admission & a Prosperous Future!
