Hello, I am 41, married, 1 son 4th std, 14 L/Annum (in hand), PPF:40 Lac, Stocks:9 Lac, Home Loan: 38 Lac, Should I repay loan amount (35K/month) or invest in Stocks? Please guide

Ans: Yes your first priority should be to prepay the home loan as fast as possible.

I would recommend you to invest systematically and in a disciplined way in PPF, NPS, mutual funds for your long term goals. (Child education, retirement)

Investments in stocks will always be fraught with fear and greed aspect, apart from other biases so keep it within certain tolerable limits.

Ensure a good life and a personal healthcare cover for protection.

As a caveat seek advice from a registered research analyst on stocks.

*Investments in mutual funds are subject to market risks. Please read all scheme related documents carefully before investing

I am 32 year old newly married man, having 1.7lakh as take home with expenses as home loan:65000 for 28yrs remaining topup: 8400 8 yrs and mortgage loan 27500 15 yrs per month. I have an equity investment of 7lakh and mutual fund sip of 5000 pm. I expect a bonus of 2lakh every year. I'm not sure if I should focus on repaying the loans quickly or increase my investment. My initial target is to invest 35000 pm. I don't know how to plan for retirement, becoming loan free and invest for kids in future. Home expenses are shared in the family and are paid through rents recieved by my mom
Ans: Congratulations on your recent marriage and your commitment to financial planning. Let's create a roadmap to address your goals of managing loans, increasing investments, planning for retirement, and securing your children's future.

Loan Repayment Strategy:

Given your substantial monthly loan obligations, it's essential to strike a balance between loan repayment and investment.
Focus on paying off high-interest loans, such as the top-up and mortgage loans, while continuing to meet the minimum payments on your home loan.
Utilize your annual bonus to make lump-sum payments towards your loans, reducing the principal and interest burden.
Investment Planning:

With a monthly take-home of Rs 1.7 lakhs and an initial investment of Rs 7 lakhs in equity, you're off to a good start.
Aim to gradually increase your monthly investments to Rs 35,000, as you've planned. This can help you build wealth over time and achieve your financial goals.
Consider diversifying your investment portfolio by exploring other asset classes like debt, real estate (if feasible), and tax-saving instruments like PPF or ELSS.
Retirement Planning:

Start planning for retirement early to benefit from the power of compounding and secure a comfortable post-retirement life.
Estimate your retirement expenses, factoring in inflation and lifestyle preferences. A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) can assist you in determining an appropriate retirement corpus.
Maximize contributions to retirement savings vehicles like EPF, PPF, or NPS to avail tax benefits and accumulate a substantial corpus over time.
Securing Your Children's Future:

Plan for your children's education and future financial needs by setting up dedicated investment accounts like a Child Education Plan or a Mutual Fund SIP.
Regularly review and adjust your investment strategy to align with your children's milestones and educational aspirations.
Seek Professional Guidance:

Consult with a CFP who can provide personalized advice tailored to your financial situation and goals.
A CFP can help you create a comprehensive financial plan, prioritize your objectives, and make informed decisions about loan repayment, investment allocation, and retirement planning.
In conclusion, by adopting a balanced approach to loan repayment and investment, and seeking professional guidance, you can work towards achieving financial freedom, securing your retirement, and building a solid foundation for your family's future.

Apart from that i have started to invest 20k in ETFs from last month. My daughter studying in 12th and son in 10th..10k is enough for monthly expenditure since have agricultural land...Kindly guide me , how i can overcome the debt, and accumulate money for my kids education.. one more question; Whether i should repay the loan on receiving any lumpsum amount or should i invest the same .. Thanks and regards..
Ans: Assessing Your Current Financial Position
You've built a strong financial foundation with your military pension and government job. Your disciplined approach to saving and investing is commendable. Understanding your current assets and liabilities is crucial for future planning.

Evaluating Your Financial Goals
Your goals include managing your home loan, saving for your children's education, and securing your financial future. Addressing these needs requires a balanced strategy that aligns with your moderate risk tolerance.

Managing Debt
Your home loan of Rs 52 lakhs with an EMI of Rs 52k per month is significant. Reducing this debt should be a priority to free up your cash flow.

If you receive a lump sum amount, consider using it to repay a portion of your loan. Paying down the principal reduces interest payments over time, easing your financial burden. Evaluate your loan's interest rate and compare it with potential investment returns to make an informed decision.

Investment Strategy
Actively Managed Funds Over Index Funds
Your current investments in small-cap and equity funds show a proactive approach. Actively managed funds have the potential to outperform index funds due to professional management. Although they come with higher fees, the potential for higher returns can be beneficial, especially for long-term goals.

Disadvantages of Direct Funds
While direct funds may offer lower expense ratios, investing through a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) provides expert guidance. A CFP can help you select suitable funds, diversify your portfolio, and make necessary adjustments. Regular funds with CFP advice often lead to better outcomes than direct funds managed independently.

Saving for Children's Education
Your daughter in 12th and son in 10th will soon need funds for higher education. Starting now with systematic investments can help accumulate the necessary funds. Consider balanced funds or debt funds for safer, consistent returns aligned with your moderate risk tolerance.

Monthly Savings and Investments
Your monthly investments of Rs 6k in mutual funds and Rs 20k in ETFs show dedication. However, be cautious with ETFs, as they track market indices and may not align with your risk profile. Actively managed funds may be a better option due to professional oversight.

Emergency Fund and Health Insurance
Your military health scheme and existing savings provide a safety net. Ensuring you have an adequate emergency fund, ideally six months of expenses, is crucial. This ensures you can handle unexpected costs without disrupting your financial plans.

Importance of Regular Review
Regularly reviewing and adjusting your portfolio ensures it remains aligned with your goals and risk tolerance. Market conditions change, and so do personal circumstances. Periodic check-ins with a CFP help in making necessary adjustments and staying on track.

Conclusion
You've laid a solid foundation with your savings and investments. To manage your debt, consider using lump sums to repay the home loan, reducing interest payments. Focus on actively managed funds for potential higher returns, and seek CFP guidance to optimize your investments. Regularly review your portfolio to stay aligned with your financial goals.

Help me!!! 1.I'm starting new "work" on my own(challenging for me) but my mind says quit it, be quite & do nothing. I myself don't know that wether the result of work will be +ive or uncompleted like alws. 2. My mind has become like order seeker type, when someone orders me, I do those things with dedicated(but sad from inside) manner. But when myself will try something different(which i fear, but necessary) then. "I QUITS IT" & sometimes I don't even start. 3. I'm like stuck no clue what/whom I want to do in life, I'm in cllg(1 yr) doing (CSE) ,. 4. I want to do/try (sports, talking girls,study,stocks,coding..) many things, but myself, my thoughts(overthinker), R like just be in the place where u are[confused,po*n,think about past/future(being billio..re,olympics..), girl (that u liked & never talked), abusive/beating self,.. sometimes feels like end life, but don't hv courage for that also.. 5. I tried self help books, spirituality, god, self affirmation, writing... & thay affected me(sometimes) but for only some time, then again that devil me comes up &these things never get completed. As no one in my family knows about all these, so that's Y ,I hv to fight/loose/try again, the battles with myself.
Ans: Dear Harsh,
If in the past you have had the urge to QUIT, how is this time going to be different? This is not to discourage you from taking up 'new work' but pointing out that there is some amount of work that you need to put to clear the mind out of blockages.
-What is limiting you?
- What is the reason for putting off things?
- What comes first to the mind when you start something new?
Also, focus on one thing at a time; study and go deep into it...what's this thing with work? I don't understand. When the mind is unsettled, take one thing/activity, pursue it and finish it. It could simply be studying for Year 1 of your college...just only do that...once your mind is trained in completing an activity, you can add another one the next year along with studying and then pursue both...it could be some sport and studying...then the next year, you could add a third activity. This is called 'training the mind in discipline'. Discipline will make sure that you start and finish things...So, go slow and do one thing at a time.

All the best!
