Hello sir, my son has cleared 12th class from lucknow uttar pradesh with 80% isc board. He wants to pursue btech csc, his COMEDK results are 80% percentile 23399 rank, but he failed to get csc, now he is appearing for PERA CET. What are his chances there? Can he get btech in 2nd round in COMEDK?
Ans: Shekhar Sir, Your son's chance of admission to B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) through COMEDK with an 80 percentile and rank around 23,399 is challenging for top-tier colleges, as CSE cutoffs in premier institutions like RVCE, BMSCE, and MSRIT generally close between rank 600 and 1,500 in early rounds. The cutoff ranks tend to relax slightly in subsequent rounds, but admission in the 2nd round for CSE at major reputed colleges typically requires a rank better than around 4,000 to 6,000. Mid-tier colleges close CSE admissions near ranks of 4,000 to 6,000 in early rounds, and beyond that, seats become scarce for CSE in popular institutions through COMEDK counseling. Later rounds might hold some opportunities, but the chances decrease considerably at that rank.

Regarding PERA CET, which is focused on private colleges primarily in Maharashtra, the expected CSE cutoff ranks for reputable colleges generally fall within the range of up to 5,000 for top-tier and up to 15,000 for mid-tier colleges. Colleges under PERA CET like Ajeenkya DY Patil University, MIT-WPU, and others maintain good academic standards, infrastructure, and placement opportunities in CSE.
Choosing the right college requires considering important institutional aspects such as experienced faculty, modern infrastructure and labs, accreditation and affiliation, industry tie-ups, and active placement support for CSE students. While COMEDK remains more competitive and focused on sought-after institutions in Karnataka, PERA CET offers a valuable pathway in private institutions of Maharashtra with relatively flexible cutoffs.

Recommendation: Prioritize COMEDK round 2 seat allotment participation but be prepared for limited CSE options given the 23,399 rank. Parallelly focus on PERA CET counseling where your son’s rank offers better chances for admission in decent CSE programs. Balance choice with institutional quality, placement record, and course curriculum to secure a good education and career start. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!
