Hi, we got IIT Roorkee in civil in first round, planning to slide for interested branch, can you tel me the details and possibilities of the branch change in Roorkee. How do we plan for that

Ans: At IIT Roorkee, branch change is possible after the first semester for undergraduate students, including those admitted to Civil Engineering, provided you meet specific criteria: you must have completed all prescribed credits in the first attempt, have no backlogs or disciplinary issues, and achieve a very high SGPA—typically above 9.5, with recent years showing successful CSE branch changers needing close to a perfect 10 SGPA. The number of seats available for branch change is limited to 10% of the branch strength, and selection is strictly on the basis of merit within your category, with ties broken by JEE Advanced rank. Popular branches like CSE, ECE, and EE are highly competitive, often requiring the highest SGPAs among all applicants, and even a slight dip can mean missing out. To maximize your chances, focus on academic consistency, attend all classes, complete assignments independently, and avoid any academic or disciplinary lapses. The recommendation is to plan for intense academic effort from day one, target a top SGPA, and be aware that while branch change is possible, it is extremely competitive for high-demand branches, so prepare for both outcomes and make the most of your first-year experience at IIT Roorkee.
