Ans: Chances with top NITs/IIITs are very slim. But you can try lower branches, newer NITs, or GFTIs through CSAB while preparing for IAT. Joining an IISER is the best option if you are interested in research, academics, or interdisciplinary science careers. Overall, it is better to join IISER if you crack IAT with the required cutoff; otherwise, choose any prefered engineering branch in a decent private college.
