Dr Dipankar Dutta is an associate professor in the computer science and engineering department at the University Institute of Technology, the University of Burdwan, West Bengal.

Aside from his responsibilities at the college, he also delivers lectures and conducts webinars.

So, currently I am in my final year of a 3 year bachelor's degree in biotechnology. I am so confused about what to do after. I am not that interested in going for research but, I definitely want to explore the entrepreneurial side of this field in future. In India, master's program in biotechnology are not that great (as far as I have researched). Is going for an MBA a better option or should I look for master's program abroad? Now the current market abroad is also struggling and the biasness against Indians is also increasing. What are the options and opportunities available for biotech graduates (bachelor's) immediately after getting out of college??

Ans: If your goal is to venture into the entrepreneurial side of biotech, pursuing an MBA in entrepreneurship or biotech management would provide you with the business acumen to succeed.
If you're keen on deepening your technical expertise, a master’s abroad in biotechnology could give you exposure to innovation and international markets.
For immediate post-bachelor's jobs, look for opportunities in biotech firms, government roles, or startups while building entrepreneurial skills through internships or certifications.

Ans: I would recommend doing well at undergrad level and take up a research project in your hoours, complete it with full focus, and take up a job to gain work expereicne for 2 years and then deciding which program would be better.

Sir, I work in a private organization in hyderabad and i am pf member also. I retired on attaining the superannuation age of 58 years in the year 2023. Im 60 years now but still working there. However, I'm still short of 4 months to complete my 10 years of mandatory service to be eligible for monthly pension. Given the above scenario, I would like to know if I'm still eligible for monthly pension once I complete 10 years of sevice after 4 months, if not will I have to withdraw my full pension now or I can withdraw any time in future, say after one or two years. Further, my sevice duration in my passbook is showing as 2007 years, 6 months and 0 days. Will this error cause any problem when applying for pension or withdrwaing pf amount. I shall be obliged if you would kindly reply my above query. With regards Ahmed M

Ans: Hello;

You are required to complete 10 years before 58.

But you may still withdraw your EPS contribution and now both employer employee contribution should go to epf only.

Please amend service record in case of any anomaly through your current employer.

I am a PSU employee goint to superannuate in next 6 yrs. I am having 35 lakhs in my company defined pension trust (present interest rate 8.02%) which I can transfer to NPS. For transferring the corpus there is exit load of 1.5%. Will you recommend to transfer this amount to NPS right now or wait till retirement when there won't be any exit load.

Ans: Whilst this is more of a financial question, you need to answer the below two questions before coming to any conclusion -

1. What is your risk taking ability. - NPS may provide higher returns than pension trust but comes with its risks since majority of NPS invest in equity markets.

2. Safety pool vs investment return pool?

Please take assistance of a financial advisor from the panel before moving ahead.

i am worked with one employer from 1999 to 2011 including 4 years overseas with same employer later i worked with another employer for 8 month and later joined first employer for march 2012 to sept 2014. i joined 2 employers between oct 14 to march 15. from April 15 to March 16 i worked overseas and later april 16 onwards i worked in india . while joining in india i was told i am joining as international worker as i was sourced while i was working abroad . i have withdrawn pf for my durations of 1999 to 2014 and invested for my house purchase , my concern is shall i get pension , how service shall be counted from 1999 to 2014 as current only EPFO Shows service post 2016.

Do you have EPS scheme certificates from your employers?

This will serve as a valuable proof of your service period and EPS contribution during the same.

Else you may get these documents from your employers now so as to substantiate your pension claim.

Seek help from a lawyer specializing in labour and EPF laws, if needed.

Pension is your right if you have been a member of EPS for a stretch of 10 years without break.

Sir , Recently I have sold one house registered in my name. I have got 1 cr from the transaction. Now i have got one running home loan of around 70 lakhs. Suppose if i repay the existing home loan from the amount obtained , whether i can save capital gain tax. or if i purchase one plot using some part of the amount (for eg: 30 lakhs) , how much capital gain tax i have to pay. The house which i have sild purchased for 7.5 lakhs in 2003. Kindly enlighten me regarding this

Ans: Please note that capital gains exemption is available only upon acquisition of a new residential house property (if the same is within the time limit).

Purchasing a plot will not help in saving capital gains tax.

When did you acquire the house where you have the home loan running needs to be considered? Please let me know that to answer this question appropriately.

In any case you have an option to reinvest the amount in 54EC bonds to the extent of INR 50 lacs and save the capital gains to such extent. The tax will need to still be paid.

What should I do so that if wish to plan a retirement after 50 so that I don't have to look here and their for money ... I want a stable Income after 50. So how much I need to earn so that I can spend 50k per month without having any burden. We are having a house and 3 Acer land (farming). So what should my minimum package so that I can live without any problem

You may start a monthly sip of 40 K into a combination of pure equity mutual funds.(50% flexicap & 50% multicap)

After 20 years you may have a corpus of around 4 Cr assuming modest return of 12%, which may be able to generate a monthly income of 1 L through SWP.

Ans: As per the Budget announced on 01 February 2025, upto 12.75 lacs there is no tax payable under new tax regime for a salaried employee.

The slabs and slab rates under new tax regime have also been revised.

My PF claim has been rejected with the following reasons: 1) ecr rejection in process.once it is uploaded then only sub f/19 2) PHOTOCOPY OF BANK PASSBOOK NOT ATTESTED BY THE AUTHORIZED SIGNATORY/BANK MANAGER i claimed again and the request is now pending for more than a month. what can i do to withdraw my PF amount? pls help.

You may contact on EPFO helpline to get an update on your withdrawal request.

If they are unable to provide any satisfactory response then you may raise complaint in EPFiGMS portal.

They have to revert to you with any other query or honour your withdrawal request.

This lethargy and delay is unacceptable.

You may ping them on SM about your case without providing personal details.(May be shared through DM)

Hi, While I was doing calculation basis new tax slabs, I found out that a person earning 40lacs has still to pay more taxes in new regime than old regime. Pls let me know if am calculating it correctly considering the fact that the person has fully exhausted his 80C (1.5lacs) and 80D (Health Insurance) and also has home loan wherein he is claiming 2lac as interest rebate.

Ans: The new tax regime as announced in the Budget on 01 Feb 2025 lays down revised slabs and revised tax rates.

Incase you are salaried and earning 40 lacs then you will be better off in the new tax regime as compared to old tax regime. Please note that the slabs in the old tax regime have not changed. Even after claiming the deductions highlighted above, you will be benefitted under new tax regime.

Please consult your CA before proceeding.

Dear Sir, My employer deposited PF during my work time with them from Nov 1996 to Jan 2000. I was employed in Hyderabad. I let the PF money remain with the PF authority. I recently visited the PF office to know the status of my PF money. I am told my bio data is not fully updated in their system and I will not get any interest for all these years. I am told I will only get the money that was deposited. Is this even legal? What can I do to get them to give me the interest along with the principal amount.

You may talk to the senior officials at the EPFO office in Hyderabad where PF account was held.

If the issue remains unresolved then, you may raise complaint through EPFiGMS portal, grievance management system of EPFO.

Hello sir/madam. I am a 50 year old NRI and ended my last India employment in 2006. I have my PF account number and PAN number. I do not have UMANG account or any other details to even check the balance. I also learnt that my account would be inactive and may not be earning interest. Any pointers on how I can go about withdrawing my PF would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you have an active UAN then you may request for withdrawal online by logging into the EPFO portal.

Else you may physically submit the appropriate composite claim form at the EPFO office where your PF account was held.
