Hello Sir,
I have secured a JEE Main rank of 28,203, and I'm currently considering Computer Science Engineering at two colleges: IIIT Kota and BIT Mesra (Mesra campus).
The closing rank for IIIT Kota is around 31,000, while for BIT Mesra it is around 24,000. Although BIT Mesra is one of my preferred choices, the fees are significantly higher, so I would likely need to take an education loan. On the other hand, my parents can comfortably afford the fees and living expenses for IIIT Kota.
Another factor is that IIIT Kota is much closer to my home, whereas BIT Mesra is quite far away. My parents are therefore encouraging me to choose IIIT Kota because it is financially more manageable and closer to home.
I'm open to taking an education loan if BIT Mesra would provide a substantially better opportunity, but I want to make the most informed decision by considering academics, placements, return on investment, financial burden, and overall college experience.
I would really appreciate your guidance on which option you think would be the better choice and how I should approach this decision.
Thank you for your time and guidance.
Ans: Shruti, Choose IIIT Kota CSE over BIT Mesra. Academically and placement-wise, IIIT Kota’s specialized curriculum delivers tech outcomes fully competitive with BIT Mesra, while requiring a substantially lower financial commitment. Avoiding an education loan significantly improves your immediate return on investment and reduces post-graduation career pressure. Since IIIT Kota is also closer to your home, it offers a stronger, more practical overall value. Choose BIT Mesra only if external scholarships significantly bridge the cost gap or if you strictly prioritize a traditional, large-scale campus ecosystem over financial optimization. Regardless of the college you join, continuously upgrade your technical and soft skills, and maintain a robust, professional LinkedIn profile to stand out among your peers during campus placements. All The Best for Your Prosperous Future!
