Hello, I am unable to sleep since 15 days now. I am having trouble breathing. Consulted gp, cardio, gyno and neuro doctors. All except neuro doctor said that there are no issues. Neurologist suggested a blood test for my serotonin and it was below range at 30.8 Ng/ml. He then advised me to consult a psychiatrist. Consulted a pulmonologist for shortness of breath. He said I have no issues and prescribed melatonin for sleeping. This helped just for a day. On day 2, I took it at 8 pm and couldn’t sleep till 1:30 am and then took Restyl to sleep for about 3 hours. Should I consult a psychiatrist? Please advise.

Hi Dr I am 40 year old female, am not able to sleep properly. Till 2 years back sleep was normal.. now I sleep only by around 1-1.30 that too with lot of difficulty.. even though if I go to bed at 10.. I am facing hair loss and due to less sleep having frequent headaches and I have to resort to paracetamol for relief from headache.. Pls suggest what has to be done, which specialty to consult is there any alternative solutions I am totally disturbed Regards Supriya

Ans: Hello Supriya,
This could be stress/hormonal related which is affecting your sleep and hair. Please consult a good naturopath or a nutritionist. You need to first do a set of blood tests which will tell us about your vitamin D3/estrogen/B12 levels etc. Accordingly the diet needs to be modified. Lack of Vit D3 also gives sleep issues.
Also a good night routine can help like penning down thoughts to reduce incomplete cycles, writing down things you are grateful for, salt water bath, using some aroma oils like Lavendar, sipping on chamomile tea.
When our mind has less incomplete thoughts we are more peaceful and the parasympathetic nervous system gets activated. This helps us to get sound sleep immediately.
Yoga can also make a huge difference especially certain pranayamas and asanas done at night.

Hello ma,'am.My name is Chandrasekhar. Age 51 . Male. I have a poor sleep pattern. I hardly sleep 5 hrs a day. Inspite of me taking Meloset 3 mg tablet for sleep. I am a very healthy individual. I walk for 10 kms a day. Please Suggest. Iam taking this meloset 3 mg tab for more than 3 years

Ans: Sleep is a problem as long as if one holds the days impression. One need to experience the body as a whole through exercise, physical activity through the day. Step up in your physical work out, have an early light dinner before 7pm,review the day before going to sleep.

Ans: Yes, there is a good chance your daughter can get into a government college for B.Tech Biotechnology with a 97 percentile in MHT CET PCB. While top colleges like COEP and VJTI might be difficult for highly competitive branches like Computer Science or IT with that percentile, you can definitely aim for good government or government-aided colleges for Biotechnology.
