Hi Doctor. I am 38 years of age and my kidney and liver values are always normal. I am atheltic and follow a strict diet which includes proteins, carbs and healthy fats. I have recently started supplementing with creatine monohydrate, a supplement which has proven benefits when it comes to weight and resistance training. My nutritionist said that during creatine consumption, it is normal for there to be a slightly increase measure of creatinine in the blood but it doesnt mean that the kidney isnt performing its function. This is what doctors call as a " false positive". I basically consume the recommended dose of 3 gms creatine per day, 6 days a week. As it is imperative that the water intake should be high during creatine consumption, i normally have 4-5 ltrs of water as well. I plan to do a routine kidney and liver function check every month to keep a track of creatinine levels. Is creatine consumption safe ? and as mentioned does it have any long term effects on kidney health in healthy individuals ?
