Hi Bikky Sir Will taking a remylin D helps in Hemoglobin? is there any relationship between hemoglobin and diabetes. What is the ideal hemoglobin percentage for men and women

Ans: Not sure if this question is for me (as I am not Bikki) but it appeared for me so I am answering this one.

Remylin D is a multivitamin with alpha lipoic acid etc. It is essentially useful supplement. In diabetes and specially those who are on treatment with Metformin etc, there is change in gut microbiota and deficiency of Vit B12 etc, so such supplements are needed. Specially those taking metformin should take such multi-vitamins.

So, Remylin D or any similar multivitamin is not a treatment of diabetes but helpful. This also helps in improving cell size of RBCs and thus treat anemia; it does not benefit in iron deficiency anemia but micro or macrocytic anemias where cell sizes are either big or small.

The other relationship between Hb and diabetes is that people who have low hameoglobin, the HbA1c, a marker for diabetes management is usually underestimated. Therefore, those who are anemic, HbA1c is not a good marker.
For male, haemoglobin should be above 13 gm% and for female above 12gm%

Best,
Dr Chandrakant Lahariya
