The school has misplaced my child's class 12th marksheet cum passing certificate . Can you guide me on what and how should i take very specific actions to force the school to fix responsibility. They have just issued apology and requested me to obtain duplicates. My child was in NIOS and this school is the designated study center . The said certificates are sent by NIOS to the respective study center from where they have to be collected by students. It has been positively established from mail records that the school received the certificates but they have misplaced in their office.

Ans: 1) It is the school study center's responsibility to arrange for the original by coordinating with the NIOS Regional Office, wherefrom they got the original certificate & ask them the NIOS Office full address also.
2) Ask them to give in writing about the same on their letterhead that "they have misplaced the original certificate of (Student's Name) bearing (Roll No./Registration Number) and parents are requested to ask for the duplicate of the same".
3) It is better to bring this serious issue with the Local or Nearby Regional Office of NIOS and lodge the complaint in writing by personally visiting the NIOS office.
4) Make sure to get everything in writing from the School Authority and don't rely on their verbal assurances/requests.
5) Also, please make sure that the term 'DUPLICATE' should not appear on the Market-Sheet & Passing Certificates as the misplaced ones can easily be misused by someone else if they reach into the wrong hands.
