Jee mains marks vs percentile for 2026

Ans: Kartik, For JEE Main 2026 aspirants, the marks vs percentile projection reflects several years of normalized results and recent exam trends. Scoring 280 or above out of 300 is expected to yield a near-perfect 99.99–100 percentile, virtually ensuring a top-100 all-India rank and maximizing eligibility for top NITs and IIITs. Marks in the 250–279 range generally correspond to a 97–99.99 percentile, placing candidates in the top 500–2,000 ranks, which opens doors to premier engineering branches at leading institutes. A score between 200–249 usually translates to a percentile in the 90–96.9 band, offering realistic opportunities in core branches at reputable NITs and some centrally funded institutes. Those scoring between 150–199 can expect an 82–89.9 percentile, which, though less competitive, still allows entry into lower or newer NITs and GFTIs, often in non-core or emerging branches. In the 100–149 mark range, a percentile between 70–81.9 is anticipated, aligning with seats in GFTIs, certain state government institutes, and select specializations in newer IIITs. Lower scores—below 100 marks—are likely to receive percentiles below 70, greatly narrowing the available options for admissions to government-funded colleges. The JEE Main percentile is calculated using a normalization method to account for variations in exam difficulty across sessions, using the formula: Percentile = (Number of candidates scoring equal to or less than your score / Total appeared) x 100. This ensures fairness regardless of exam shift and results are reported to up to seven decimal places to break ties. The percentiles reported above are approximate and based on an analysis of previous official NTA releases, professional coaching institutes, and major educational portals. Cutoffs and corresponding percentiles can shift year by year depending on the number of aspirants and paper difficulty, so regular reference to the latest NTA and counselling data is strongly advised for the most accurate predictions.

Aiming for scores above 200 maximizes opportunities for core branches at leading NITs and IIITs, but aspirants should stay updated on official NTA notifications and utilize reliable percentile predictors after each session for targeted counseling and realistic expectation management. All the BEST for Your JEE Preparation!

My son got 98.7932percentile rank 19328,in jee mains which nit, iiit he will get. Computer science, electrical, electronics branch. Which branch will be good
Ans: Rahul Sir, before I suggest which NIT, IIIT, or GFTI your son might get into—and which branch could suit him—let me share a quick thought. All branches are good if he's genuinely interested in one. The real key is keeping his skills sharp (tech and soft skills), building a strong professional profile over the next 4 years, networking smartly with classmates, alumni, and pros in his field, staying active on LinkedIn, and tracking job trends on career sites. If his interests shift in 2nd or 3rd year—or job markets change—he should adapt. Joining a good college matters, but his success hinges on these steps. Now answering your question: Your son has good chances for ECE/EE in several NITs/IIITs, but CSE in top NITs is difficult. Still, he can try. For CSE/IT, target IIIT Sonepat, IIIT Una, IIIT Kota, IIIT Guwahati, IIIT Kalyani, IIIT Sri City, IIIT Vadodara, IIIT Bhopal/Surat/Nagpur depending on the year-wise cutoff. For ECE/Electronics, chances are better in NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, NIT Delhi, NIT Patna, NIT Raipur, NIT Durgapur, NIT Silchar, NIT Goa, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Agartala. For Electrical, he may get stronger NIT options like NIT Bhopal, Durgapur, Patna, Raipur, Jalandhar, Silchar. Additionally, reviewing JoSAA opening and closing ranks from the past 2–3 years will provide valuable insights and help your son confidently select and fill his preferred & maximum number of choices. It is also advisable to have backup options of 4-5 reputed Private Engineering Colleges in and around your son's Home State. All the BEST for Your Son's Prosperous Future!
