Sir my son got 96.6 percentile in jee mains so whether I have to with low NIiT or IIIT with other then core branches is good option or go with some private institute is good with CSE/EC

Ans: Prefer a good NIT/IIIT (even a non-core branch) over private colleges for better brand, exposure, and flexibility; the branch can be managed later. But if your son is deeply interested in CSE/EC, then prefer a decent private college. Talk with your son about his preference and then make a wise decision. Do not try to impose your decision on him.

Hello sir, I got 99.82 percentile(2900 rank) in Mains. I am interested in Electronics Engineering, preferably IIT-Madras followed by IIT-Bombay. I am likely to get ECE in the following options NIT-Trichy/NIT-Suratkal, IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Bangalore I wanted to know the alternate options. 1. What would be the best option out of the above 4(NIT/IIIT). How would you rate the 4 in terms of preference? 2. If there is a possibility to get IIT-Hyderabad, how is it compared to the above? 3. Is it better to go for Integrated M.Tech option if available (in IIIT-B you need to select first and no flexibility, but I understand that there is an option to select later in IIIT-H and IITs)? Would it be better to take this option if interested in pursuing post graduate or better to take BTech now and keep MS options open? Please suggest. Thanks

Ans: Here is the pointwise reply to your query: (1) IIIT Hyderabad > NIT Trichy > NIT Surathkal > IIIT Bangalore (2) Prefer IIT-H over all 4 above. (3) Prefer B.Tech now + MS later. Choose Integrated only with a clear long-term research goal

Final quick recommendation:
(1) Try: IIT-H ECE (if possible)
(2) Else: IIIT-H > NIT-T > NIT-S > IIIT-B
(3) Degree: B.Tech preferred unless you’re research-focused already

Thank you for the suggestions sir. One more doubt - IIT-H has EE for Electronics and another IDT branch specific to chip design. What would be a good option to give better flexibility? Thanks.

Ans: Prefer EE (Electronics/Electrical) for flexibility. Yet it is highly recommended to visit the IIIT-H in person for more details and, if possible, talk with the people who are working in this field (if you know any of them)

My opinion/suggestion-
(1) If you are not 100% sure about your career → take EE
(2) If you are very sure about chip design/VLSI → take IDT

The final choice and decision will be yours.

I got 88.15 percentile in Jee mains(EWS), not planning on giving Advanced. I have qualified for CS in Manipal Institute of Tech main campus but the fees is too high for me. The maximum I can go for, with a education loan is 25 lakhs for the whole btech. In VIT I will most likely get category 3 or 4. Home state is Uttar Pradesh. What options do I have? Should I take the risk and go for MIT Manipal only as regardless of college if the fees exceeds 10 lakhs I will be taken education loan for the full amount.

Ans: Rethink MIT Manipal and VIT (Cat 3/4). It would be better to prioritize lower-cost routes like state colleges via UPSEE/JEE Main counselling (AKTU), decent NITs/IIITs if any EWS seats fit your rank, or strong private colleges with scholarships. Minimize debt for a safer start. As far as possible, try to avoid high educational loans. You can complete CS/CSE/ECE and similar tech courses in the range of 5-10-15 lac. These days, the college tag does not play an important role. It is better to take admission to a decent college with minimum fees and try to learn via free online courses. A lot of material is available online. Try to gain as much knowledge as you can. In the interview or at the time of placement, your knowledge will help you rather than a college tag.

Ans: Based on your score, getting CSE in NIT/IIIT/GFTI through JoSAA is unlikely, because even EWS CSE cutoffs usually close much higher in CRL/category rank. You may still try JoSAA + CSAB for lower branches in GFTIs, North-East/remote institutes, or non-CSE branches, but keep realistic expectations. JoSAA and CSAB publish official opening/closing ranks for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, so use those during choice filling. For SIT Pune, your chances are better than JoSAA CSE options. SIT Pune officially accepts SITEEE, JEE Main, and state government engineering entrance scores for B.Tech admission, and its process is online. Apply to SIT Pune CSE/AI-ML/IT, MIT-WPU, Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune, DY Patil, and state counselling options. For CSE, SIT Pune is a practical target. All the Best for Your Prosperous Future!

Ans: Based on your score, you have a reasonable chance for CSE/IT at NIT Kurukshetra, especially in later JoSAA/CSAB rounds. In 2024, NIT Kurukshetra CSE under HS OBC-NCL closed around 7405 in Round 5, and 2025 trends also show the HS OBC-NCL CSE closing range around 7993, so your 6080 rank is competitive. For tier-1 NIT CSE like Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad, and Calicut, chances are low, as their OBC CSE cutoffs are much tighter. The best preference can be NIT Kurukshetra CSE/IT, then ECE/MnC/AI-related branches, then good IIITs like Una, Nagpur, Bhagalpur, Kottayam, Sri City, and Guwahati. Ans: Deepak Sir, With a CRL of 17,500, general male, your son has a good profile, but a top NIT/IIIT CSE is difficult. Realistic JoSAA choices are CSE/IT in newer IIITs, ECE/EEE in decent NITs, and core branches in stronger NITs. Top NIT CSE/AI/DS usually closes much earlier. For BITSAT 253, BITS official 2025 cutoffs show CS is not possible, but M.Sc. Economics/Mathematics/Physics at Hyderabad/Goa may be possible or borderline, while Pilani Economics is tougher. Considering his interests in CS + Finance + Economics, the best order is BITS M.Sc. Economics dual degree, if available; then good IIIT CSE/IT/AI; then NIT ECE/EEE with coding/finance electives & then COEP/VJTI/SPIT/PICT through Maharashtra options. Hi, my son got 95.68 percentile and 67880 rank in Jeemains, category is open and home state UP. Any chance of getting good branch in IIIT/NIT in later rounds. He got offer from SNU for CSE.

Ans: At CRL 67,880, General/Open, UP, chances of a good NIT/IIIT branch through JoSAA for your son are weak. In regular JoSAA rounds, CSE/ECE/IT in NITs and established IIITs usually close much earlier. He may only get lower-demand branches in some GFTIs, newer NITs, or remote institutes, mainly in later/CSAB rounds. CSAB special rounds can give surprises, but it depends on vacancies, so fill all choices carefully. Since he already has SNU CSE, it is a strong backup and may be better than a weak/less-preferred branch in a low-cutoff institute. SNU’s official 2024–25 placement data shows 174 recruiters, a Rs.9.88 LPA average, a Rs.8.45 LPA median, and Rs.54.82 LPA highest. Better to prefer SNU CSE unless CSAB gives a clearly decent IIIT/NIT tech branch. All the BEST for Your Son's Prosperous Future!
