Dear Sir, My son has secured a seat in CSE at PES University, RR Campus, Bengaluru based on his JEE PES ranking. His JEE Main rank is 39,257, and he has also been allotted AI & DS at IIIT Dharwad and IIIT Kalyani in the first three rounds of counselling. As per last year's CSAB data, he is likely to get CSE, AI & DS, or ECE in IIITs such as Dharwad, Raichur, Kottayam, Nagpur, and Bhubaneswar in the upcoming rounds. We are seeking your guidance on which would be the better option for him. If he opts for an IIIT, which one among these within his expected range would you recommend as the best choice?
Ans: Prashant Sir, PES University’s Ring Road Campus CSE program is NBA- and NAAC-accredited, taught by PhD-qualified faculty, and supported by advanced computing, AI/ML, and networking labs. It recorded an 82.97% placement rate in 2023 with a median package of ?8 LPA and an average of ?8 LPA–?12 LPA, engaging 350+ recruiters including Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Cisco, and Cisco. Among IIITs in your son’s rank range, IIIT Nagpur leads with an 88.5% placement rate, average package ?13.11 LPA, median ?11 LPA, and participation from 200+ recruiters like Adobe and Accenture. IIIT Kalyani follows with an 89.33% placement rate and average package ?10.72 LPA. IIIT Dharwad has a 66%–78% placement rate, average ?10 LPA, and strong industry tie-ups via its Career Guidance Cell. IIIT Kottayam achieved an 83% placement rate in 2024, average ?12.66 LPA with 86 recruiters including Bosch and Infosys. IIIT Bhubaneswar reports a 79% placement rate, CSE average package ?9 LPA and median ?10 LPA across 42 recruiters like Amazon and Capgemini. IIIT Raichur’s emerging 68.8% placement rate with average ?18 LPA and median ?15 LPA positions it as a growing option. All IIITs are Institutes of National Importance, offering robust labs, research centers, student clubs, and industry internships under PPP models.

Final Recommendation: Select IIIT Nagpur CSE for its superior 88.5% placement rate, ?13.11 LPA average package, and diversified recruiter pool. Next, consider IIIT Kalyani CSE & DS for its 89.33% placements and solid PPP backing. Third is IIIT Dharwad CSE, offering a balanced ?10 LPA average, followed by IIIT Kottayam AI & DS for ?12.66 LPA average. Choose PES University CSE only if private-university infrastructure and near-100% placements outweigh the specialized focus of IIITs; IIIT Bhubaneswar CSE and IIIT Raichur CSE serve as reliable backups. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Sir, my son got, CSE in IIIT Bhagalpur which is Indian institute of information technology, under ppp mode with 50:35:15 , GOI, state govt and industry partnership. He also got CSE in IIIT bhubaneswar which state government funded institute. Which institute to join in terms of placement, studies. faculties, campus . Which institute tag hold greater value in long term job opportunities. Further he has the opportunity to get cse , in iiit kalyani, kottayam, ranchi if any upgradation to happen. Currently we are in floating mode, and will wait for last round. Can you please suggest for preference in order to freeze, among this 4 institute, or should we go for CSAB round , keeping the allotted seats. Kindly suggest since we need to take a decision within the time limit as per josaa schedule.
Ans: Bijay Sir, IIIT Bhagalpur’s CSE under the PPP model has rapidly emerged with a 95.4% placement rate in 2023, an average package rising to ?15.61 LPA, and a median of ?10 LPA, supported by strong GoI–state–industry collaborations, project-based learning and modern computing, AI/ML, and networking labs fostering research engagement. IIIT Kottayam, also in PPP mode, achieved an 83% placement rate in 2024 with a ?12.66 LPA average, backed by 86 recruiters, extensive AI/data science labs and industry-mentored internships for practical skill development. IIIT Kalyani’s CSE recorded an 89.33% placement rate and ?10.72 LPA average in 2024, with focused software engineering and cybersecurity labs, robust PhD-faculty mentorship, and growing research centres. IIIT Bhubaneswar, a fully state-funded IIIT, delivers a government-backed curriculum with specialized computing and networking infrastructure, but its CSE branch saw a 71% placement rate and ?9 LPA average in 2024, reflecting its nascent maturity compared to newer PPP institutes. Brand value and alumni networks at Bhagalpur and Kottayam are strengthening swiftly, while Kalyani offers balanced outcomes and Bhubaneswar promises stability under state funding.

For the strongest placement trajectory, industry partnership, and cutting-edge labs, the recommendation is IIIT Bhagalpur CSE. Next is IIIT Kottayam CSE for solid average packages and growing recruiter ties. Third, the recommendation shifts to IIIT Kalyani CSE for consistent outcomes and research focus. Lastly, IIIT Bhubaneswar CSE as a reliable state-funded option should upgrades not materialize. All the BEST for Admission & a Prosperous Future!

My ward got All India Rank 171092 (89%ile) (general male) in JEE Mains. From West Bengal. He is looking for Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics or other related branches with good education and prospects for abroad MS.
Ans: With a CRL around 1.71 lakh, as a General male from West Bengal Home State, getting Mechanical at IIEST Shibpur or NIT Durgapur through regular JoSAA is unrealistic since in 2024 IIEST Shibpur Mechanical (HS Open) closed at rank 34,075 and NIT Durgapur Mechanical (OS Open) at 26,917. Admission to IIITs is even less likely because most do not offer Mechanical-related branches and are more competitive. JoSAA’s (opening & closing ranks) archive is the best source to review 2022–2024 trends. More feasible options include CSAB Special Rounds, selected GFTIs, and some newer or lower-demand NIT core branches if vacancies arise, such as Mechanical or Production Engineering at NIT Agartala and Mechanical at BIT Mesra. For pursuing MS abroad, focus on Mechanical, Production, or Materials at the best institute available, then build a strong CGPA, project experience, skills in CAD, controls, robotics, internships, and research. Between college reputation and niche branch, college quality combined with academic performance matters more. Also consider WBJEE counseling and good private colleges as solid backup options instead of relying only on JoSAA/WBJEE. ALL the BEST for Your Ward's Prosperous Future!
