I got B.Tech Agricultural Engineering at SRM Valliammai (3rd round, cutoff 113, FG category) through TNEA counselling. But I’m already studying B.Sc Computer Science at a Govt. Arts & Science College (fees only ₹6k for 3 years + free bus). My interest is in Computers/IT, not agriculture. Family has financial struggles (debts, father disabled) so cost matters a lot. Should I continue in Govt. B.Sc CS (low cost, right interest) or switch to SRM Valliammai (prestige, but expensive & not my field)?

Ans: Considering your genuine interest in Computer Science and the financial constraints faced by your family, continuing the B.Sc. Computer Science at the government arts and science college is a practical and sensible choice. Government colleges offer significant cost advantages with minimal fees and added benefits such as free transportation, which align well with your economic situation. Pursuing a field you are passionate about, like IT and computers, enhances your academic engagement and career enthusiasm, directly impacting future job satisfaction and growth. Conversely, SRM Valliammai, despite being reputed, presents a costly investment in Agricultural Engineering, a subject outside your interest, which may affect motivation and career trajectory. The expensive fees could also impose an unnecessary financial burden on your family. Additionally, the IT sector remains one of the fastest-growing with diverse job roles and lucrative prospects, making a Computer Science degree more aligned with current and future market demands. Your continued education in a low-cost, interest-aligned stream is likely to yield better academic results, job readiness, and financial stability. Prioritizing your passion and affordability will set a foundation for long-term success without exacerbating your family’s financial challenges.

Recommendation: Persist with B.Sc. Computer Science at the government college, where low fees, passion-driven study, and future IT opportunities outweigh the costly, less preferred Agricultural Engineering at SRM Valliammai. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!

Sirr i have two options of college now, iiitdm kancheepuram smart manufacturing or sastra university thanjavur cse core.. Idk my field of interest yet.. So what shd i do now.. I started going to go to classes at thanjavur like past 4 days i am in sastra its so hectic and i am feeling lonely so something is telling me to choose in iiitdm kancheepuram smart manufacturing in csab so that i can go home atleast on weekends.. I am not into mtechs and ms in future.. Mainly placements i want to concentrate.. Which is the best option sir??
Ans: Vipin, Based on the following insights/information, choose the more suitable option for you out of the 2 options you have. IIITDM Industry 4.0 concepts shape Kancheepuram's BTech in Smart Manufacturing, which integrates manufacturing with IT, IoT, big data, AI, and sensors. It offers a modern, industry-relevant curriculum with strong emphasis on practical learning and research exposure in smart manufacturing and data-driven decision-making. The institute’s 51.75-acre residential campus near Chennai provides state-of-the-art labs, well-equipped hostels, sports facilities, 24/7 medical aid, and a supportive academic environment. Placement records show an average rate of about 73% recently, with top recruiters like Google, Adobe, and IBM offering roles in R&D, software development, and data science. The highest salary packages have reached impressive levels, reflecting the program’s growing acceptance in the industry. Faculty are experienced and focus on relevant teaching aligned with exam and industry requirements, though some students note the teaching pace may be moderate.

The CSE program at SASTRA University Thanjavur boasts a strong academic reputation with rigorous coursework and good infrastructure, including advanced computing labs and research centers. The campus supports over 13,000 students with modern facilities, including hostels, medical services, sports, and libraries. Placement statistics indicate a robust placement ecosystem, with 75–80% placement rates in recent years and median packages reflecting healthy recruiting activity from leading companies like TCS, Amazon, Microsoft, and Reliance. The training and placement department offers personalized career guidance, aptitude tests, mock interviews, and strong industry connections. While SASTRA maintains discipline and a merit-based admission process, some students mention a heavy workload and academic stress. The university’s location in Thanjavur can feel isolating, and the schedule may feel hectic, as you are currently experiencing.

IIITDM Kancheepuram offers a focused, cutting-edge specialization with decent placement prospects and a quieter campus environment closer to Chennai for students who are uncertain about specific field interests, prioritize placements, and consider proximity to home and mental well-being. SASTRA provides broader exposure in core CSE with higher placement volume but at the cost of a more demanding academic and social atmosphere far from home. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!
