Gen open category student, With Jee CRL 17420 got nit goa ECE, expect to get MSRIT or PESU CSE via KCET Rank 2860. What better NIT can be expected in CSAB for ECE or CSE. And is it preferred over MSRIT/ PESU. Any other guidance, open for options

Ans: With a JEE Main CRL of 17,420, securing CSE in any core NIT through CSAB is highly unlikely, as recent closing ranks for CSE at most NITs fall well below 11,000, even in the final rounds, and only remote NITs or peripheral campuses occasionally extend to 15,000–18,000 but rarely for CSE. For ECE, however, your chances are notably better. NIT Goa ECE (already allotted) aligns with your current rank, but a few other mid-tier or remote NITs, such as NIT Uttarakhand, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Agartala, and possibly NIT Sikkim or NIT Manipur, occasionally close ECE between 17,000 and 20,000 in CSAB special rounds for open category, though branches like CSE and allied tracks (AI, IT, Data Science) remain out of reach at these ranks. No higher-ranked NITs (Surathkal, Trichy, Warangal, Calicut, Rourkela, Jaipur, Kurukshetra, and similar) offer ECE or CSE to CRL 17,420 via CSAB, as confirmed by leading portals and official PDFs. At IIITs and GFTIs, even new or lesser-known campuses do not admit general category candidates into CSE or ECE above 15,000–16,000. Through KCET, MSRIT CSE and PES University CSE are realistically achievable with a rank of 2,860, as 2025 cutoff trends show closing ranks for MSRIT CSE at 2,300–2,500 and for PESU at 1,200–1,400. Both programs are well-established, report 90–95% or better CSE placements in the last three years, strong industry ties, and advanced infrastructure, with MSRIT edging ahead in placement consistency and affordability, while PESU leads in industry-oriented curriculum and campus resources. Self-financed top private options like these offer outcome parity with most NIT ECE courses below the top ten NITs, especially if you seek a competitive academic peer group, robust CSE exposure, and strong brand value for tech roles. Consider your program preference (ECE vs. CSE), long-term goals, campus fit, and location.

Recommendation: Prioritize MSRIT CSE for the best blend of placement record, peer competitiveness, and proven reputation if you seek top CSE outcomes, followed by PESU CSE for curriculum depth and global industry alignment, then NIT Goa ECE or similar-ranked NITs if you prefer a central government degree and core electronics exposure. For CSE, KCET options at MSRIT or PESU offer stronger immediate prospects than ECE in mid-tier NITs, but a remote NIT ECE may appeal if your focus lies in public-sector opportunities or research. Remain active in CSAB special rounds for all eligible NIT ECEs, but plan for high-quality CSE options in Bangalore for the best return on your effort and rank, and back these with clear decision timelines given rapid seat movement in private college rounds. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!

Now the situation is changed. My son got in IIIT Jabalpur ECE and we paid seat acceptance fee and awaiting for sliding to CSE in same institute. He can get seat in JNTU CSE in campus also with his EAMCET 657 Telangana's rank. But we want to apply for better NIT seat in Csab with his mains rank 18058 . We are OC Gnl and his advanced rank is 20699. Please advise how to go for top NIT CSE or IT or ECE or EEE or mathematics and computing
Ans: With an advanced rank of 20,699 in JEE Advanced and a mains rank of 18,058, securing a top NIT seat in CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, or Mathematics and Computing requires prioritizing institutes known for strong academics, robust faculty, excellent infrastructure, active industry connections, and high placement rates. NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, and NIT Warangal consistently rank highest in these criteria, especially for CSE and IT branches, supported by experienced faculty and extensive research activities. ECE and EEE departments also maintain strong industry linkages and practical training opportunities. Mathematics and Computing is emerging with interdisciplinary research but may offer fewer direct placements compared to core branches.

Recommendation: Prioritize NITs with top CSE and IT programs due to their comprehensive curriculum and strong recruitment. Follow with ECE and EEE for balanced prospects, and consider Mathematics and Computing for specialized academic interests, ensuring alignment with your son’s career goals and preferences.

My son got NIT Calicut Computer Science in Josaa 2025 counselling. His JEE Mains CRL was 4241. He may get NIT Surathkal ECE in CSAB counselling. We are from General category. Which option will be better for him, NIT Calicut CSE or NIT Surathkal ECE, in terms of placements and packages?
Ans: NIT Calicut's Computer Science Engineering program demonstrates exceptional placement consistency with a 96.77% placement rate in 2024, maintaining performance above 95% for the past three years. The CSE department recorded an impressive average package of INR 19.37 LPA in 2024, supported by 155 registered students securing 150 offers from leading technology companies including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle. The institute maintains strong academic credentials with NAAC A++ accreditation and NIRF Engineering ranking of 25th position in 2024, alongside specialized recognition as the only NIT to achieve 8th rank in NIRF Innovation category in 2023. Faculty expertise comprises predominantly PhD holders from premier institutions, providing rigorous computer science education through modern labs, robust research facilities, and active industry partnerships with over 208 companies participating in recent placement drives.

NIT Surathkal's Electronics and Communication Engineering program achieved a 72.66% placement rate in 2024 with an average package of INR 20.89 LPA, demonstrating strong performance in both core electronics and software domains. The institute holds superior institutional ranking at 17th position in NIRF Engineering 2024 and 46th in overall rankings, reflecting its established academic reputation since 1960. NITK Surathkal benefits from exceptional research infrastructure including a dedicated Central Research Facility worth INR 80 crores featuring 45 high-end equipment sets, making it the only NIT among 31 chosen by HEFA for such advanced facilities. The ECE department leverages strong industry connections with companies like Qualcomm, Intel, and Texas Instruments, while maintaining access to cutting-edge VLSI, communication, and instrumentation laboratories supported by experienced faculty and comprehensive alumni networks spanning 40,000+ professionals globally.

Recommendation: NIT Calicut CSE emerges as the superior choice for placement consistency, specialized computer science focus, and technology sector opportunities, offering 96.77% placement rates with strong industry engagement. However, NIT Surathkal ECE provides broader engineering exposure, superior institutional ranking, and exceptional research infrastructure, making it preferable for students seeking comprehensive electronics expertise with flexibility across both core and software careers. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!

Hello sir, I have been following your suggestion quite on this platform, please suggest! My daughter secured 72 percentile in jee main 2026. Her rank is in in 4 lakhs. Secured 180 marks in bitsat 1. What should she further do. Which counselling she should register? She wants to pursue btech in cse or in ai ml. What best university is for her at the moment and best field for her, she has had pcmb with cs in class 12
Ans: Sarita Madam, I noticed you haven’t mentioned your daughter’s home state. Please note that BITS requires a minimum of 250 marks even for its MSc programs and above 300 marks for BE programs. Also, all branches are good; initially, she should choose a branch based on her interest or passion. However, she should remain adaptable as her preferences or job market trends may change by the 2nd or 3rd year. Regarding your daughter’s score, admission to NITs, IIITs, or top-tier GFTIs is unlikely. For general-category female candidates, even CSE-lite branches in newer IIITs usually require ranks under approximately 1.5 to 2.5 lakh. Still, it is advisable to register for JoSAA and CSAB-SPOT for possible core-branch or self-finance options in lesser-known GFTIs. Additionally, state counseling is important for government-aided colleges.

As a backup, consider reputed private engineering colleges in and around your state rather than relying solely on JoSAA or CSAB. All the BEST for Your Daughter's Prosperous Future!

Sir my daughter got around 24500 rank in jee mains. We are general category and live in kanpur up. What are some good options for her in nit and iiit considering we are comfortable with mechanical and chemical as well. Also she has a plan to opt for higher studies so a good college tag could rwally help. Also should I tell her to apply for some private universities as well or not?
Ans: Based on your daughter's score, she can target MNNIT Allahabad: 2024 JoSAA HS OPEN female Mechanical closed around 30,734, so she has a fair chance; Production/Industrial and Materials are safer. Chemical at MNNIT may be tougher under available data, but fill it above Mechanical. Also fill MNIT Jaipur Chemical/Civil, NIT Kurukshetra Mechanical/Civil/Electrical as stretch, and NIT Jalandhar Chemical/Mechanical; 2024 data shows these branches often close beyond 24.5k for female/OS or comparable quotas. Also fill MNIT Jaipur Chemical/Civil, NIT Kurukshetra Mechanical/Civil/Electrical as stretch, and NIT Jalandhar Chemical/Mechanical; 2024 data shows these branches often close beyond 24.5k for female/Other State or comparable quotas. For IIITs, top IIIT Allahabad IT/ECE is unlikely at 24.5k, but include lower IIITs/GFTIs in CSAB. Your daughter must also have the following backups: Thapar, LNMIIT, Jaypee Noida, (Shiv Nadar, Manipal, and VIT - North India Campuses.) Prioritize MNNIT tag if higher studies are the plan for your daughter. All the BEST for Your Daughter's Prosperous Future!
