Hello Sir, I have a very big dilemma whether I should choose CSE or AIML. For me, I am someone who likes logic and not mugging up things. And I like to apply with understanding instead of just mugging up and learning stuff. And I also don't have much love for statistics or probability and stuff. So, can you please tell me which course is the best for me? AIML or Computer Science Engineering? And also, can you tell me about the job opportunities and placement opportunities in both? And also tell me sir, I have few colleges as my options, BMS-IT and Sir MVIT and JSS-ATE and RNS-IT. But for my KCET cut-offs, I can make it into BMS-IT and Sir M-VIT easily. So tell me which one of these is the best for me. And in these two colleges, what course should I choose, AIML or Computer Science?
Ans: Based on what you said—you enjoy logic and understanding concepts, but not statistics or probability—Computer Science Engineering (CSE) is the better fit. AIML is heavily statistics- and data-driven, and while it sounds modern, it can feel like a burden if you dislike those areas.
CSE gives you a broader foundation—you can specialize later in AI, Cybersecurity, Software Dev, or Systems Engineering.
Regarding placements, both AIML and CSE have good job prospects, but CSE offers more variety and volume of roles (software developer, backend engineer, cloud engineer, etc.), especially from core tech companies.
Both are decent colleges under VTU, but BMSIT has a better placement track record, is closer to the tech hubs, and offers stronger alumni support.
Between CSE and AIML at BMSIT, go for CSE—it is a safer, broader, and more flexible course for future growth.
