I'm 64 years old male.Last 1+ months I am suffering from dry cough.In the beginning I started Sitopaladi churna,honey, Jeshtimadh(yashtimool sometimes called) but no improvement. So I consulted general physician and he prescribed Asthalin Expectorant Plus and Montina tablet(one tablet a day) but effect of medicine is very little. I checked body temp and it is 97. I live in Chembur,Mumbai where Air quality is very very poor(highly polluted). Please suggest proper medication. My PP sugar level is slightly high.

Ans: Polluted atmosphere could be one of your causes for persistent cough.
Please start using a can ester mask while travelling out in public transports and even while you go out for a walk.
You can also dampen a thin muslin cloth to keep around your nose for filtering dust from air. If there was any viral flu at the beginning of the episode, then it will settle down. Soon Because there are some post viral coughs are persisting around 3-4weeks

I want suggestion of any home remedy for dry cough. my mom is 67 years old & suffering from dry cough but is afraid to go to doctor's clinic.

Ans: Is, she, on any medication for hypertension, ACE inhibitors like Ramipril/captopril
There are drug induced cough
Acid reflux induced cough too.
Please, rule out those
Warm sips, of fluids, Pepper and Tulsi decoction will reduce the inflammation and irritation

Sir, I am 75 years old senior citizen and I having cough for the last 15 days. Since I am taking BP medicine (Telmah AMH 40, Amtas-5, Flow kind 0.4 and Rosawel 10 for quite some time. If the cough is due to intake of BP medicine or something else. I am now taking some homeopathic since yesterday. Still cough is there. Could you kindly suggest some medicine or continue with the homeopathic medicine. Throat irritation is too much and at night wheezing sound is there.

Ans: If there is, any new medications prescribed in these 15 days needs to be looked at. Cough is present only since 15 days.please have an early dinner and dinner meal should have complec Carbohydrate, easily digestible protein and no fat
Gastro esophageal reflux could be a reason for the irritation in the throat.

Ans: Dry cough as a, prolonged symptoms need to be looked for drug effect like medications for high BP like Captopril Enalapril induces cough. Also acid reflux disease too brings about dry irritant cough. Kindly rule that out

My grandson aged 4 yrs frequently have Dry coughing suddenly which aggravates in night more.. pl advise for his cure..Also advise for increasing his immunity. Overall his wt is 14 kgs , physique , intelligence, appetite is good.. Thanks Madam.

Ans: Weight is within normal range for his age though slightly below average. A cough that is worse at night could be a warning sign for asthma. Hence I advise you to get him examined by his pediatrician who may advise certain tests.
A diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables build up immunity. Avoid processed and packaged foods especially sweet stuff.
