Hello sir. My brother is getting ocean engineering at IIT Madras, Civil at IIT Indore and CS at RVCE. Which would be the right choice.

Ans: Please note, here the 2 questions are (1) Your brother prefers IIT over Stream or Stream over IIT (2) He wants IIT's Stamp on his Certificate irrespective of whether he is interested or not for the stream offered by IIT and / or whether the stream has any scope or not? Please ask your brother this question & decide accordingly, if he is confident over the Stream he chooses. Also you please AVOID forcing him to join which you prefer. (3) Ask his order of preference as far as streams (Civil, CS or Ocean Engineering) are concerned. I suggest to consider one among 2-choices (out of 3) i.e. IIT-M (Ocean) or RVCE (CS). All the BEST for your Brother's Bright Future.

Thank you for your answer sir. My brother is specific about choosing IIT and pursue minor course related to IT and try for IT placements. Does placement cell at IIT allows non-IT branches for Tier-1 IT companies?

Ans: Please note, Recruiters / Companies have the discretion over, which all stream students can register for their Campus Recruitment Drive? Some IT Companies even welcome other stream students (ECE etc.) including CS. This is applicable in RV also. Even a student of EEE got placed with an IT company. Simple reason is, some students have extra CERTIFICATIONS (from NPTEL, Internshala, Coursera, LinkedIn etc. or online platforms recommended by their College Faculties) other than their domain to be competent among other students. Dear Sir, My son has got Naval architecture and ocean engg in IIT Madras. Will probably get Biological engg in next rounds. Have got CS in RVCE Bangalore. Will get Electrical and Electronics in BITS(Goa and Hyderabad). He is not very particular about branch. Pls suggest which option to choose. Thank you.
