Sir I got 94 percentile in jee this year and got 68 marks in jee advanced. Should I take a drop of join any private college and focus on skills. I personally feel I can do better by taking a drop. Is it a good idea in today's skill based market?
Ans: Scoring in the 94th percentile in JEE Main and 68 marks in JEE Advanced presents solid but non-IIT/NIT-guaranteed prospects, making the choice between a dedicated drop year and immediate private-college enrollment pivotal. A drop year affords uninterrupted, focused mastery of JEE’s vast syllabus—enabling revision of weak areas, rigorous mock-test cycles, and personal growth in resilience and time-management—while official NTA and coaching-centre reports emphasise that disciplined droppers often improve by 5–10 percentile points. Conversely, India’s skills-first hiring shift—adopted by 80% of employers in tech and emerging sectors—underscores that practical expertise, internships, and certifications (in coding, data structures, and AI) can override formal pedigree. Reputable private colleges accepting JEE Main scores (such as Shiv Nadar University, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and Manipal Academy) provide AICTE-approved, NAAC-A/-A++ programs with Ph.D.-qualified faculty, modern labs, industry-collaborative projects, 70–85% placement rates over three years, and strong career services—ensuring skill development even without an IIT tag. Both paths must be weighed against five pillars: accreditation, faculty quality, infrastructure, placement performance, and student support. If self-motivation, a proven study strategy, and mental readiness are high, a drop year can unlock top-tier admits; if immediate immersion in skill-oriented learning environments and early industry exposure appeal more, enrolling in a top private institution while upskilling through coding bootcamps and project-based internships is equally valid.
MY SUGGESTION: Better to join any Private Engineering College & Move Forward. Go for a drop only if you are 100% confident that you will be able to score above 99.60 percentile by preparing for JEE smartly during the next 6 months. However, also advise to have back-ups by appearing for Private Engineering Colleges Entrance Exams also. All the BEST for a Prosperous Future!
