I am a final-year BTech student from a tier-2 college in Pune with a CGPA of 8.1. I recently took the IELTS and scored 6.5 overall (just 6 in writing). I've been researching Canadian universities like Concordia and Dalhousie. Will my current score be enough for a decent master's programme in CS, or should I delay my application and aim for a higher band?

Ans: 8.1 CGPA from a tier-2 college is really good and a 6.5 in IELTS is not bad either, but the 6 in writing might limit your options. Some programs accept 6.5 overall, but many want at least 6.5 in each section, especially for technical courses like CS. For universities like Concordia and Dalhousie, your overall score is on the edge. If you're not in a big rush and feel you can push your writing score to a 6.5 or 7, it’s honestly worth retaking the IELTS. Some universities can also give you an option to take additional English Language Courses, if your IELTS scores are not as per their requirements. If you still want to try applying with your current score, you can shortlist unis that clearly mention they accept 6 in one band. Some might still consider you, especially if your academics and SOP are strong.
