My daughter is doing BTech AI ML from IGDTUW and branch upgradation process is going on her college after 1st year. Should she go for upgradation for CSE - AI or continue BTech AI ML, Placement statistics of CSE - AI is good in college but statistics for BTech AI ML is not available as it is new branch started in 2020 People are saying there are not much difference in both branch and future is same for both...As being expert please suggest
Ans: Amit Sir, The BTech Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning program at IGDTUW, launched in 2020, enrolls 90 students and reflects the university’s commitment to emerging technologies through AI-DS internships and cutting-edge curriculum in deep learning, NLP, computer vision and data analytics. Despite its novelty, the branch registered a 69.3% placement rate for the Class of 2024, with an average package of INR 22.82 LPA and a highest offer of INR 52.89 LPA, mirroring institution-wide outcomes. In contrast, the established BTech CSE-AI specialization, part of the CSE department, reported 76.7% placements in 2024, with 56 of 73 students placed via full-time and pre-placement offers, and consistently strong recruiter participation from leading tech firms. CSE-AI students benefit from robust computing labs, multidisciplinary electives, and proven industry linkages. Industry demand for AI and ML expertise continues to soar globally and in India: job postings requiring AI/ML skills grew by 36% in 2025, with roles spanning ML engineering, NLP, data science and MLOps, and emerging trends like AutoML, federated learning and explainable AI projecting sustained growth through 2030, especially in healthcare, autonomous systems and finance. The broader CSE-AI curriculum still covers foundational computer science—data structures, algorithms and systems—while offering specialization in AI, ensuring versatile career paths. Experts note the overlap between pure AI-ML and CSE-AI, with core CS subjects shared through the fourth semester and divergence thereafter into specialized AI coursework, resulting in minimal academic difference but potentially wider recruiter confidence in the established CSE-AI track. Both programs share IGDTUW’s A+ NAAC accreditation, experienced faculty, modern infrastructure, strong placement support and active incubation centers.
Recommendation
Opt for CSE-AI to leverage its superior placement history, broader foundational training and stronger recruiter perception, while still immersing in AI-ML domains; continue in pure AI-ML only if your long-term goal centers strictly on research-driven AI roles and you accept the inherent early-branch risk. All the BEST for your Daughter's Prosperous Future!
