Dear Sir, Please advise us on better option for future prospect in between IIT-Ropar-Mech & IIT-BHU-Chem Engg. Thanks in advance.

Ans: IIT Ropar’s Mechanical Engineering offers a 67.86% placement rate in 2024, with an average package of ?19 LPA and top recruiters like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, but the branch’s placement rate has declined in recent years and is less robust than circuital branches. IIT BHU’s Chemical Engineering stands out with a 74.71% placement rate in 2024, an average package of ?19–22.77 LPA, and consistent recruitment by leading core and non-core companies including Reliance, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs. IIT BHU’s Chemical program is ranked 10th in NIRF 2024, boasts a large and influential alumni network, and is recognized for its academic rigor and vibrant campus life. While both branches provide strong research and higher study opportunities, IIT BHU Chemical Engineering outperforms IIT Ropar Mechanical in placement consistency, median salary, and national reputation.

Recommendation: IIT BHU Chemical Engineering is the better option for long-term prospects due to its higher placement rate, stronger recruiter network, and superior national standing compared to IIT Ropar Mechanical Engineering. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Hello sir i got mechanical engg at iit ropar and next possible option is IIT bhu CHEMICAL engineering .Please suggest whether we should go for iit Ropar mech or wait for iit bhu chem .I am flexible with both the branches and I am concerned about future prospect.Thankyou
Ans: Debnath, IIT Ropar's Mechanical Engineering achieved a 59.32% placement rate in 2024 with 35 out of 59 students placed, showing improvement from 67.86% in 2023. IIT BHU's Chemical Engineering recorded a superior 74.71% placement rate in 2024 with 130 students placed, maintaining consistency with strong alumni support and industry connections. The Chemical Engineering department at IIT BHU stands out with median packages around 19.63 LPA, outperforming many other IIT chemical departments despite having a large batch size of 150+ students. IIT BHU holds a significant advantage in institutional ranking, positioned at #10 in NIRF Engineering 2024 compared to IIT Ropar's #22 ranking. Both branches offer distinct career trajectories: Mechanical Engineering provides broader industry applications across aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, renewable energy, and emerging fields like robotics and automation, while Chemical Engineering focuses on specialized opportunities in pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, sustainability solutions, and emerging areas like AI-driven process optimization and biodegradable materials. IIT BHU's established reputation since 1919, stronger alumni network, and superior placement infrastructure create better long-term career prospects compared to IIT Ropar's newer campus established in 2008.

Recommendation: Choose IIT BHU Chemical Engineering for superior placement rates at 74.71%, higher ranking (#10 vs #22), stronger alumni network, and better future prospects in emerging sustainability sectors; opt for IIT Ropar Mechanical only if core mechanical fields strongly align with your interests despite lower 59.32% placement rates. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Career
Hello Sir ,IIT ROPAR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING or NIT ROURKELA ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING which one should i choose ,I am flexible with both the branches and thinking about future prospect Please do help.Thankyou
Ans: IIT Ropar’s Mechanical Engineering program offers a dynamic curriculum with strong foundations in thermal, design, manufacturing, and computational mechanics, supported by advanced labs (3D printing, robotics, micro-machining, and fatigue testing) and a faculty focused on student mentorship and research. The placement rate for mechanical engineering is about 60–68% with an average package of ?12–15 LPA and top recruiters from both core and non-core sectors. NIT Rourkela’s Electrical Engineering program, NIRF #19, consistently achieves 95–100% placement rates, an average package of ?13.4 LPA, and attracts elite recruiters like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Qualcomm. The campus provides excellent infrastructure, modern hostels, and a vibrant student life, with the electrical branch particularly noted for its industry relevance and placement consistency. Both institutes have highly qualified faculty and strong research culture, but NIT Rourkela’s electrical branch stands out for its higher placement rates, broader recruiter base, and better average compensation, while IIT Ropar offers the IIT brand and a more research-oriented environment.

Recommendation: If your priority is placement assurance, industry exposure, and compensation, NIT Rourkela Electrical Engineering is the better choice. If you value the IIT brand, research opportunities, and a flexible curriculum, IIT Ropar Mechanical Engineering is excellent. Both offer strong futures, but NIT Rourkela EE edges ahead for placement-driven outcomes. All the BEST for the Admission & a Prosperous Future!

Career
sir, my son got 4589 rank in SRM and alloted CSE in kattankulathur. During the next 4 years which skill sets he needs to acquire for a better career and where to do Mtech for a better placement
Ans: Over the next four years, your son should build strong foundations in data structures and algorithms, master programming languages such as Python, Java and C++, develop expertise in machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), gain practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and deepen understanding of databases, DevOps practices, cybersecurity fundamentals and software architecture. Equally important are communication, teamwork and project-management skills honed through internships, hackathons and open-source contributions. For M.Tech in CSE and allied fields, Southern India’s top NIRF-ranked public and private institutes include Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Chennai), Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (Hyderabad), National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (Tiruchirappalli), National Institute of Technology Warangal (Warangal), Anna University (Chennai), Vellore Institute of Technology (Vellore), SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Chennai), PSG College of Technology (Coimbatore), National Institute of Technology Calicut (Kozhikode) and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Coimbatore). These institutes excel in research infrastructure, faculty quality, industry collaborations, placement records (75–95% over three years) and alumni networks.

Recommendation: Prioritize IIT Madras for its unparalleled research labs, industry-funded projects, and >90% M.Tech placement consistency; next, choose IIT Hyderabad for cutting-edge AI/cloud research and strong recruiter engagement; consider NIT Trichy for balanced academic rigor, robust placement cell and competitive GATE cutoffs. All the BEST for Admission & a Prosperous Future!
