Hi, I am 35 yrs old and currently working in an IT firm. I always had an interest in Weather forecasting, Meteorological branch of science. Are there any available institutes in India to pursue this education? Also please suggest career opportunities in the same. Thanks for your guidance.

Ans: It's great. Here are a few suggestions:

Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) that focuses on atmospheric and oceanic sciences, and also offer various research programs and short-term courses related to meteorology.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) provides training programs for meteorologists + offers the opportunity to work in weather forecasting and related areas.

To begin with, consider pursuing a degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or related fields. Look for universities or institutes that offer programs in these areas. Meteorology has various sub-disciplines, including climatology, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, and more. Depending on your interest, choose a specialisation. Do remember that meteorology is a dynamic filed and will require constant learning to refresh skills and tools understanding.

Gain practical experience by participating in internships or research projects related to meteorologyy to enhance your hands-on skills, and connect with peers through webinars or conferences.

You may do a thorough research to understand the job landscape. A few career prospects include Weather Forecaster, Climate Researcher. Research Scientist, Air Quality Specialist, Disaster Management (to predict and manage natural disasters like cyclones, floods, and droughts), Agricultural Meteorologist, Aviation Meteorologist, or Media Meteorologist. The Indian Meteorological Department and other government agencies often hire meteorologists for weather forecasting and related positions, while some private companies require weather experts for specific projects or to analyse data for industries such as agriculture, energy, transportation, and more.

I have completed my msc in biochemistry n now doing internship but I am confusing about my future because I see this field don't pay me inuff for life even for future... N don't have more jobs in Maharashtra. I don't like production jobs but in Pharma only production pay much so what can I do .. Can u suggest me which job is high payable after Msc biochemistry
Ans: Hi Nandu,

Greetings!

Could you please let me know which year you completed your course and whether you are currently doing an internship or apprenticeship? An internship is part of the curriculum, where students gain practical training, sometimes with a stipend and sometimes without. After completing your course, you can opt for an apprenticeship, which typically lasts one to one and a half years and includes a stipend, usually split 50%-50% between the industry and government.

If you are in the internship phase, please inform me about the specific field you are working in. Initially, you may not expect a high salary, but after gaining expertise in your field, your compensation will improve. Typically, this takes about three years, so it’s important to focus on skill acquisition for a better future.

If your internship aligns with your field of study, I encourage you to continue and consider starting a medical lab or exploring opportunities in medical devices related to biochemistry. However, pursuing a career in pharmaceutical production may not be suitable for you, as it is a different field, and you may find it challenging to grasp the processes involved since you are currently inexperienced in that area.

Please share the specific field of your internship, and I would be happy to provide more tailored advice.
with regards
