I got 71% in my board exams
I got 47 percentile in jee mains
I got 66 percentile in MHT CET
I have taken the drop and first aim and target is to get admission in IIT and in side I will am also ready to give multiple engineering entrance exams so I am asking that did I have taken the right decision
Ans: Krishna, Taking a year off after scoring 71% boards, 47 percentile in JEE Main and 66 percentile in MHT-CET can be beneficial if used strategically. Nearly 40–45% of IIT entrants are repeaters, and droppers comprise about 15% of aspirants. A focused drop year allows dedicated revision, error analysis, and deeper conceptual understanding without board-exam pressure, often improving scores by addressing weaknesses and practising mock tests. However, it requires strong discipline, consistent practice, mental resilience and adequate mentorship to avoid burnout and academic stagnation. Success rates for droppers range between 50% and 60% when a smart study plan and quality coaching are employed.
If committed to disciplined preparation, structured time management, and high-quality coaching, continuing the drop year remains a valid strategy. Otherwise, leverage remaining attempts at JEE Main and diversify with state-level exams for admission to strong engineering colleges. All the BEST for Admission & a Prosperous Future!
