Ans: With 185 marks in JEE Advanced and 99.73 percentile in JEE Main, your son’s rank will likely place him in the range of 10,000–15,000. Admission to CSE or Mathematics & Computing in older IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras) is unlikely due to very high cutoffs. However, newer IITs (Hyderabad, Indore, Mandi, Ropar) offer good chances for these branches. He should prioritize newer IITs for CSE or Mathematics & Computing, and consider other core branches at older IITs as backup. Participating actively in JoSAA counselling (by filling maximum number of choices including your son's preferred IITs and also keeping options flexible will maximize admission chances.
