Hello sir, my daughter got 99.03 percentile in her Jee mains . What best NIT or IIIT options she can get

Ans: Congrats to your Daughter for scoring 99.03 percentile in her JEE (Main).

As far IIITs (like Kancheepuram) are concerned, chances are more she will easily get admission into any Course.

As far as Top NITs like Trichy, Surathkal, Warrangal & Kurukshetra are concerned, it depends upon which Course your daughter wishes to join. Please note, getting admission into CSE in these top Institutes will be difficult as there is a tough competition for CSE with these NIT-Branches.

If your daughter gets confirmed admissions from 5-6 Institutes, please decide after thinking over some important factors like (1) your daughter’s interest (2) location (3) campus recruitment records during the last 2-3 years (4) salary packages offered.

Hope I have clarified your doubts. If you need any other clarifications for your daughter or have questions for anyone, post your questions (in detail) to me here.

Mutual Funds, Financial Planning Expert - Answered on Nov 29, 2024

Money
I am 46 years old with a monthly income of ?2.25 lakhs. Here is a summary of my current investments and financial situation: Gold: 1750 grams Equity PMS: ?1 crore (invested last year) SIP: ?1 lakh per month with 5 different MF (started last year) Fixed Deposits: ?50 lakhs Debt MF Instruments: ?75 lakhs Agricultural Land: ?30 lakhs Medical Insurance: ?15 lakh coverage with a top-up to ?1 crore Term Insurance: ?75 lakhs I have two daughters in the 10th and 12th grades, both planning to pursue higher education (post-graduation) in the United States. My current monthly expense is ?1.25 lakhs, and I aim to retire at 55. Could you review my investment portfolio and provide advice on whether it aligns with my goals? Additionally, how should I plan for retirement, factoring in my current lifestyle and future expenses?
Ans: Your current investments and insurance coverage reflect thoughtful financial planning. Your diversified asset base provides a strong foundation. However, aligning investments with future goals needs more focus. Below is a detailed analysis of your portfolio and tailored recommendations.

Strengths in Your Portfolio
Gold Holding: 1750 grams of gold is a robust hedge against inflation and market volatility.

Equity PMS Investment: Rs 1 crore allocation to PMS reflects a proactive growth-focused approach.

SIP Investments: Rs 1 lakh per month across five mutual funds shows consistent disciplined investing.

Fixed Deposits (FDs): Rs 50 lakhs in FDs ensures liquidity and risk-free returns.

Debt Instruments: Rs 75 lakhs in debt MFs ensures portfolio stability and regular income.

Agricultural Land: Rs 30 lakhs in land adds diversification but has limited liquidity.

Insurance Coverage: Term insurance of Rs 75 lakhs and medical insurance with a Rs 1 crore top-up ensures adequate risk coverage.

Observations and Concerns
Equity Allocation Timing: The equity PMS was invested last year when markets were at high valuations. Monitor its performance carefully.

SIP Diversification: Investing in five mutual funds could lead to overlapping portfolios.

FD Allocation: Rs 50 lakhs in FDs may result in lower post-tax returns compared to inflation.

Debt MF Taxation: Debt MFs are now taxed as per your income tax slab. Consider their tax efficiency.

Higher Education Abroad: Funding your daughters’ post-graduation abroad requires significant dollar-linked planning.

Retirement Age and Expenses: Retiring at 55 with a monthly expense of Rs 1.25 lakhs will require significant corpus accumulation.

Recommendations for Better Goal Alignment
1. Review and Optimise SIPs
Evaluate overlapping mutual fund investments. Focus on well-performing funds with different styles.
Use actively managed funds for better potential returns compared to index funds.
Consider investing through an MFD with CFP credentials for professional guidance.
2. Adjust Fixed Deposit Allocation
Reduce exposure to FDs gradually due to low real returns after taxes.
Reallocate to high-quality short-duration debt funds or conservative hybrid funds for better post-tax returns.
3. Debt Mutual Funds Strategy
Monitor the impact of new tax rules. Debt MFs are now less tax-efficient for high-income earners.
Explore tax-efficient options like corporate deposits or government bonds.
4. Gold Holding Rationalisation
Gold provides safety but lacks regular income.
Avoid further increasing gold allocation and focus on higher-yielding investments.
Planning for Higher Education Expenses
1. Estimate Costs in Advance
Factor in tuition, living costs, and inflation in USD.
Start saving in dollar-denominated instruments or international mutual funds.
2. Education Loan Option
Consider partial education loans for tax benefits on interest repayment under Section 80E.
Planning for Retirement at 55
1. Target Corpus for Retirement
Account for inflation and increasing medical costs.
Estimate future expenses at Rs 2.5–3 lakhs per month post-retirement.
2. Build a Balanced Retirement Portfolio
Maintain equity exposure for long-term growth even post-retirement.
Diversify with debt MFs, conservative hybrid funds, and senior citizen savings schemes.
3. Avoid Real Estate
Agricultural land offers diversification but is illiquid. Avoid adding more real estate.
Insurance Coverage Evaluation
1. Term Insurance Review
Rs 75 lakhs coverage may be sufficient. Ensure it covers liabilities and future goals.
2. Health Insurance
Rs 15 lakh coverage with a Rs 1 crore top-up is commendable. Continue reviewing coverage adequacy.
Tax Planning
Equity LTCG above Rs 1.25 lakh is taxed at 12.5%. Plan redemptions accordingly.
Debt MF gains are taxed as per your income slab. Choose tax-efficient instruments.
Steps to Strengthen Your Portfolio
Consolidate SIPs and maintain focus on quality funds.
Rebalance FD and gold allocations towards growth-oriented investments.
Build a US-dollar-linked portfolio for education goals.
Maintain a systematic retirement corpus creation strategy.
Final Insights
You are on a solid financial path with diversified investments. Fine-tuning allocations can optimise outcomes for your goals. Focus on tax efficiency, education funding, and retirement corpus growth.

Ans: It is important to have a strategy to demonstrate your abilities, refresh your knowledge, and impress potential employers when returning to the field of finance and accounting after an absence. You can address the gap in employment by bringing it up in interviews or on your CV. Earn the appropriate credentials by taking classes in areas like tax analysis, financial modeling, and accounting software. Revamp your LinkedIn profile and resume to emphasize your technical abilities and expertise as a finance executive. Use LinkedIn to make the correct connections. On your break, make sure to include any online classes or freelance job you may have. Investigate options for working remotely. Create a strategy to network through LinkedIn, joining groups pertaining to finance, and going to career fairs. Apply for employment more targetedly by making one-of-a-kind resumes and cover letters, highlighting relevant talents, and thinking about freelance or temporary work. Make sure you're well-prepared for interviews by reviewing your previous work, practicing how to operate remotely, and addressing any gaps in your employment. Everyone, no matter how much experience they have, has trouble finding a job and often uses the wrong tactics. You should, if at all feasible, hire a career coach with expertise in "Job Search Strategies," such as Vikram Anand. Further assistance in determining the best way to search for jobs that fit your profile can be provided by them. All the BEST for Your Prosperous Future.

After 37 years of marriage my husband , a renowned lawyer, is behaving strangely. Refuses to eat anything in the house or follow the normal routine. The issue that triggered this behaviour was apparently very inconsequential. But maybe it was the last straw on the camel's back... He feels the we ...wife daughter and son ... Just inform his instead of consulting him. Things have not gone as per his expectations... As his son did not follow his profession... Inspite of doing LLB and daughter's marriage ended in a divorce. Since we are living in a small town and he is a well known person... I don't know what to do.... If I react and the disharmony becomes public... We would never be able to reconcile....cit is getting suffocating for me... What should I do
Ans: Dear Anonymous,
What can you do with someone who behaves irrationally? Or maybe you are assuming all these reasons and his behavior change could be due to something else?
Can you request one of his close friends to talk to him and figure out what exactly is happening and what he wants to do about it? Are you also sure that it's not anything health-related? Sometimes, deficiencies can be seen as withdrawal, anger, anxiety etc...
And on a separate note, if he refuses to change despite all your efforts, it may mean that you need to withdraw into yourself and create a life for yourself. Difficult but not impossible...

i got married late in life being a girl which was 30 years old, after i got married my so called husband started harassing me verbally and then in just three months i stayed with him he strangled me 3 times and hit me 2 times, and says sorry everytime and then repeat again according to people this is not even a thing as these things happens between married people, i was a working housewife there as i work from home being a software engineer but still this person and his mom had a lot of issues with me, And just to be in this marriage i did everything to made it work. His efforts which he say he put were he took me to honeymoon(in which he fought with me for day saying why did your brother didn't ask me which car did i will prefer) Basically this man thinks i didn't put much efforts for him in marriage that's arrange like buying things for him and according to his level ( the most irritating word for me he uses for himself, mere level ki watch nhi h, mere level k kpde nhi h, mere level ka hall nhi h). Even after marriage for 2 months he and his mom keeps on saying such things but i tried to ignore them. But how can i do that when at night my husband after my office hours end at 10'o clock starts fighting with me and keep that's up till 12. He don't even care if i eat or not but wants me to feed him with my own hands because according to him being a husband he deserves this kind of love and care from me. And says that you don't know how the world outside is he need to work with people and you just work online so that's not even work( i earn almost same as him). I did every thing washing his undergarments till placing his clothes in almirah. Providing him variety of foods, and make him enjoy a lot of sex which was the only kind of intimacy i had with this person. Even when he fought with me still he forcefully had sex because acc to him its his right and the only way to solve his fights or ruckus he has caused. So after observing his behaviour i am asking him divorce since then but he is not ready to provide me. Legally it will be a very long time, though i have started that too. i am 32 now and case will going to take many years and later even now no one will marry me at this age because i am divorcee & Also 32. What should i do?
Ans: Dear Anonymous,
You are doing what you should do for yourself. Move away from this very toxic person and the marriage. Yes, he may contest and this can be a long drawn affair, be prepared for that.
Consult with a good lawyer who will basically be able to contest it very ably from your side and make sure that it ends fair and square.
There is no need to think of yet another marriage right now as I suggest that you give yourself some time to breathe and move out of this one. Feel your freedom, physically, emotionally and financially and heal from this one. There will be a point in time when you might feel the need for a companion...

I am in a complicated situation. I asked out a guy who I found potentially charming and he pertained to be coming from a wealthy family. He said yes and we started dating a month back. But as per Diwali we both went home and started talking over video calls. I came to know through them that he basically belongs to a village and does not comes from a well to do family, moreover I was traumatised to see his home which was extremely outdated and also had a room which had a tin roof .. and he used to call from that room itself. It’s extremely hurtful to end this with him because otherwise he is an amazing guy .. and we get along really well. I am not even concerned of family and interstate thing as I know they will get convinced but I am myself not ready to compromise.. and I am confused wether I love him that much or not. I myself belong to a good educated family and have been pampered a lot. I do not know how to end things with him. As I don’t think I would be able to live in that village or compromise. Please help
Ans: Dear Anonymous,
Hey, hey...you just asked him out and you have already started to imagine a life with him?
Relax! Enjoy the dating scene a bit; also know that he was possibly afraid of this reactions of yours and had to hide his background. It's his truth; what can anyone do about it, yeah?

So, take a moment and realize that it's just been a few weeks now...give it some time to get to a place where you all these things start to matter. But, of course if social status, financial background are on top of your list, then end this right away to spare the two of you of any more agony. Better now than later...

I am currently in 1 year CSE at NIT Warangal, please suggest me some additional courses with which I can improve my skills and get a good placement
Ans: As an initial step, please conduct research on the companies that have visited NIT-W for campus recruitment over the past 2-3 years. Review the websites of each company to familiarize yourself with the products and services they offer.
From this information, you will be able to discern the skills anticipated by each organization. Please document all necessary skills. Identify the skills that are commonly sought after by recruiters and companies. The senior students and faculty members of your institute in their fourth year will be available to assist you with this matter.
Upon reviewing the skills identified and those recommended by your Senior Students and Faculty, you will be positioned to finalize the Certifications you intend to pursue. Below are some recommended certification courses you may consider pursuing, contingent upon feedback from your senior students and faculty in the CSE Department: Programming Foundations, Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA), Web Development, App Development, Competitive Programming, Machine Learning and AI, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Blockchain. Acquire proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and Java. Engage in practice through platforms like freeCodeCamp, HackRank, and CodeChef. Explore Python libraries including NumPy, Pandas, and TensorFlow, as well as delve into ethical hacking, network security, AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Hi sir, I am worked 5 years in company and resigned, company given me FnF and not giving me 2 Months incentive they saying company will not give incentive left employees and they also not giving fnf break up, please help me what should I do now
Ans: If your employer declines to offer you incentives and a comprehensive Full and Final settlement breakdown, there are various steps you can consider taking. Begin by examining your employment documents, such as the letter of appointment, HR regulations, and any relevant communications. If you do not receive a satisfactory response, consider sending a formal email or letter to management or HR, outlining your reasons for declining the reward. If HR fails to respond, consider escalating the issue to higher management, such as the department head, CFO, or CEO. These approaches enhance the chances of resolving the issue in a friendly manner. Based on my experience in HR, I recommend that you AVOID approaching the Labour Department or Labour Court solely for your 2 months' incentives. It is advisable to proceed and explore other job opportunities after obtaining the Experience Certificate from your previous employer. If you adhere to the legal avenues, it may only create a negative perception of you, even if you are not at fault. Many companies, after hiring candidates, perform background checks with their previous employers, which could result in complications if you decide to approach the Labour Court.
