i had lost my taste and smell in april 2021, during covid second wave . I did not had any major issues other than high fever for 9 days at that time .Now after almost 2.5 years i have not regained actual smell and taste till date but have some different but common smell for all different perfumes and smoke .
Is there any chance of regaining the actual smell and taste now.
please advise
Ans: Dear Mohinder,
This is pretty unpleasant to know. I suggest that you visit a specialist maybe like an ENT specialist who can actually investigate the matter further and give sound medical advice.
In the meantime, you can take charge by activating your senses again...It's an attempt that may or may not lead to an outcome; but no harm in trying.
Everyday alternate between smelling and tasting something different with at least 5 different foods/objects/flowers/fruits/combination of these. So, in all:
- 5 things to smells
- 5 things to taste
Do this slowly and savor the moment recognizing even the faintest of taste or smell...if there is a response, then keep continuing...trying it with strong smelling fruits like oranges or foods like garlic may help. Again, I will mention this is something that you can try...it may or may not work but its worth the effort.
All the best!
