Hello, Komal ji. My mother is a diabetic patient since 19 years. Her HBA1C slways in higher side 8.5 but pp and fasting comes between 120 to 135. She's taking her medicines. What are the reasons of high HBA1C.
Ans: An HbA1c level of 8.5% for a diabetic is out of range. Fasting blood sugar levels of 120 to 135 mg/dl must also be lowered. While following a diabetic diet, ensure that it is within her nutritional requirements. Reduce intake of simple carbs like white bread, white flour, sugars, cakes, cookies, sweetened beverages, etc. Include a high fiber diet with foods like green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, oatmeal, beans, etc. Adequate protein is important in every meal so include foods like low fat dairy products, beans, dals, eggs, lean meat, nuts, etc. Physical activity is important to increase energy expenditure and lower the blood glucose levels.
