I am 56 yrs old, 5ft 11 inches height, 87 kg wt, non-smoker, non-alcoholic. I have been diagnosed with type II diabetes. I am a regular morning walker@ 5-6 km at a brisk speed. I take only green tea without sugar every morning. I don't take sugar in milk / curd. My daily food intake consists of about 5 plain wheat chapatis and a small bowl of rice along with lentils and green vegetables and fruits. I take few medicine like Glycomet GP-2 and Vinglyn , one tab each in morning. Still my fasting sugar level hovers around 180, and weight around 85-86 kgs. Please tell me how to control my sugar level without further addition of medicines.
Ans: You can lower your blood sugar levels by focusing on lifestyle interventions. Include high complex carbohydrates and fiber rich foods in your diet like whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables; protein rich foods like low fat dairy products, pulses and legumes, nuts, etc.; and low fat foods. Portion control is important to avoid glycemic load. Have small frequent meals. Do strengthening and aerobic exercises regularly.
