Ans: Greetings of the Day. Yes, Exemption can be claimed under the provisions of Section 80U - which says, that the disability has to be certified by a recognized medical authority , the person claiming deduction should be the citizen of India. Depending on the severity of the disability, the exemption can be max. upto ₹125,000=00 from the total income or can be upto ₹75,000=00.
In the act, they have prescribed severe disability and only disability , wherein , persons with severe disability can claim the exemption upto ₹125,000=00 and only disability upto ₹75,000=00.
